Rear Valence painting

Question about painting the rear valence of the stang. Right below the Mustang sign .... I was wondering what you guys would do ...

1) Mask the area ...
2) prep and clean area with
3) Prime ??
4) Paint Black (flat or "shiny")
5) Clear coat ....

What type of paint (co.) Anyone done this ? anyone have pics ?

You may just want to go with a sticker package. I have seen many with the sticker (chrome) inserts and it looks great. Really brings out the lettering on the back bumper valance and there not all that expensive if memory serves me.

ya not talking about the lettering .. i'm actually talking about just below that .. there is an insert into the bumper (indented) .... let me see if I can slap a picture up here

Ahh...What colour are you thinking of painting that? I have painted my hood scoop and rear wing semi gloss black. I could give you some pointers for prep and painting.

either flat black or shiny (lack of a better word) black.

Easy stuff that you can do yourself.I did my trunk lid in between the tail lights myself,and it came out really good.Take your time,and you wil have good results.
1) Mask the area ... Mask the area off with masking tap obviously,and also yous plastic bag type of material to cover most of the back of your stang off.
2) prep and clean area withSand with really fine sand paper,400 grit should be good.You don't want to be too coarse where you see the lines threw the paint,but don't want it to be to fine that it will not etch it good enough to stick,then wipe it down with some soapy water,then rinse to get all the sanding dust off.
3) Prime ?? Use Dupli Color spray can,good stuff.
4) Paint Black (flat or "shiny") Again use Dupli Color,an get the black trim paint spray can.This will almost match the rest of the black trim on your stang,and look right at home.
5) Clear coat .... Not needed with the rim paint.
The '94 mustang had that area done this way,so it will look very factory like.Don't know why Ford didn't continue this threw the years.

Just one thing to add. once you sand and clean with soapy water I would suggest picking up some tac cloth to really remove the dust particles. Then I would wipe with 100% methyl hydrate (alcohol) to clean the area. Apply a light coat to the area and let dry for 10 15 minutes and apply a second light coat. you do not want to over spray as the semi gloss black trim paint, it will run. After each coat lightly rub with the tac cloth to remove paint dust so you don't get dust particles in the nice new paint.

One other thing. if you are doing this in your garage I suggest wetting the garage floor down to minimize dust contamination from the garage floor.
