For anyone considering a Hybrid, what happens when you need repairs? Sure you'll have a warranty but when it runs out, you're almost forced to take it to a dealer for service. Yikes!

well...theres a 8 year/100000km's on the power pack...
and 5 year 60000 on the power train. In my almost 30 years I'm yet to own a car longer then 5 years and have never racked up 100K on one.
the closest I came was my 99 Cobra which I sold last year to buy the 04 and it only had 37,000 on it...

I'll end up selling it after 5...I think thats a great warranty on it...would I recommend buying one used...probably not if its close to the 8th year...cause apparently the battery pack is pricey if somthing goes wrong...

but look at the money you save in gas...350k's on $12.00...I cant do that in my focus...

The Escape Hybrid has a 8yr/ 160,000km warranty on the electric motor, battery and all conponents relating to the Hybrid portion of the vehicle. Last tank went almost 800km's on a 12 gallon tank. Averaged 41.2mpg.

if you were to do as he said.... use it for 5 years or so then toss it in for a new one, you should have only one problems.. too much money saved on gas. Go for it. Buying used, i think the battery for the escape is about $12,000 to replace. YIKES!

how many years will it take you to recover the extra spent on the vehicle? Sure you save gas, but the initial cost is more than a standard Escape.

I think the real question is....How much more will it be worth than a standard V6 model in a few years. My bet is the Escape will be worth more than double the extra cost come trade-in time over a V6 model.

Gas ain't getting any cheaper folks.. The demand for Hybrids will only increase.

Toyota will introduce a Hybrid in every vehicle it sell in the next 2 years. The Prius sold 92,000 copies in it's first year.

Actually Escapes hold their value really well and ones coming off lease are always in high demand and get snagged up quickly.

For all the na-sayers out there, look at it this way...

What did a Plasma TV cost 3 years ago, or a DLP TV. Lets see, a 50" Plasma in 2002 cost(ed) $12,000 and today it cost $6,000. Does anyone really logically think that a battery will cost $12K when the warranty expires? Or, are all cars scrap after the warranty ends. Does your Mustang still have a warranty? Did you panic when the dealer told they could sell you a new engine for $6 grand, or a new tranny for $3 grand.

EVERY manufacturer will have Hybrids out in the next 2 years. Battery prices will drop dramatically.

Does anyone NOT see this? Today gas in Mississauga is $1.07 a litre!! That's $54.00 to gas up a Mustang and will most likely last for 1 week. That's $2,808/yr if gassed up once a week for the whole year.

In my parents basement, I found their original calculator that they purchased in 1978. My mom told it cost $75.00 and it was only 6 digits, and could only do +, -, division, and =. That's it and eveyone bought one.

These vehicles will start to sell and sell big.

All valid points. Mind you the 05gt requires only 120 liters of gas per year :laughhard
