1989 Ford Mustang GT - $4500

Category: Domestic
Status: Clean Title

I have a 1989 Ford Mustang GT for sale, in Mississauga - Brampton.

Mileage: 96000km

Asking price is $4500

Well gang, I have come to the realization that I do not have the time, energy, or wherewithal to complete my Fox track day car project that I took on a few years ago. Part of the plan was to have the car eligible for VARAC vintage racing as well, but with the new job that I started last year, I am not going to have the time for that either. It’s been fun searching for the parts and pieces to create the vision I had for an “old school” car from the early days of Fox Mustangs that I got to enjoy first hand with my old 87 LX, but I have been offered an amazing deal on a nicely modded S197 that I can’t refuse. So up for sale is a completely rust-free 1989 GT hatchback car in IKEA form … some assembly required. Preferably someone is willing to take the car as it sits as well as all of the pieces I have to go with it in one shot. However if nobody shows interest in the complete package, I will consider selling the car as it sits (or with some items removed to reduce the price), and then go through the process of selling parts individually or as a group.

The car has been through several hands before I got it, and from what we can determine, has never been winter driven. The original instrument cluster was showing around 96,000 km, but we had swapped out the speedo for an old Ford Motorsport 140 mph unit. There are no rust areas on the body at all, but it does have some damage to the cowl area which came from a hood fly-up incident I was told. The windshield got cracked as well, so it will need replacement. Underneath the car is as spotless as the topside, no rust or corrosion anywhere. We were able to remove all of the suspension parts, brake lines, seats, gas tank, etc,., using hand tools alone. It is originally an AOD car, but the pedal swap has been completed, as was a swap to grey trim panels and dashboard from the original porno red. The headliner and carpet we dyed dark grey for now since I wasn’t making a show car of it, so you would likely want to swap those as well, depending on your intentions for the car.

Please see the old build thread that I had going for photos and more details:

https://www.cmoc.ca/general-mustang-tech-chat-46/my-89-gt-back-day-street-track-day-project-build-15715/

Here is the list of what would be included, it may be not totally complete because of my old guy memory

89 GT hatchback shell, rust-free sunroof car in black, with a Saleen replica wing in need of some repair
Saleen replica skirt package needing paint (the car would have to be converted to LX mouldings)
used LX front and rear bumper covers to accommodate the Saleen package
brand new OEM Ford headlight and marker light set, car has good used LX taillights swapped in already
brand new OEM Ford weatherstrips for the door and hatch openings
new aftermarket 91-93 front fenders with the larger wheel opening
3-1/2 sets of wheels, including 6 early Saleen mesh style 16x8” (all rears), 4 in good condition, 2 ugly but straight, 4 later Saleen 5-spoke ARE style 16x8” (all rears) mounted with new Continental ExtremeContact DW 225/55R16, 4 Saleen Speedline 17x8.5” (all rears), along with several sets of used BFG, Toyo, and Nitto R-compound tires to go on all these wheels. The wheels are all the higher “rear” offset that Saleen used, to go along with the increased track from the SN95 control arms and rear axles.

Slot Car Mustang front crossmember with relocated body, control arm, and engine mounting points
reman OEM 03 Cobra steering rack with Maximum Motorsports adapter steering shaft
new OEM Ford 03 Cobra control arms with Ford Motorsport extra height ball joints
early SN95 spindles with new OEM Ford hubs, Centric rotors with 94-98 GT calipers with Hawk pads
8.8” axle, low mile used 3.27 gears and new 31-spline Torsen T2R differential , SN95 length Moser axles
SN95 GT rear brakes with Centric rotors and new OEM calipers with Hawk pads
OEM Ford SN95 booster and master cylinder, Kelsey Hayes adjustable proportioning valve
Maximum Motorsports revalved Bilstein front struts with H&R Super Race springs
Global West original style “McCaster” caster/camber plates
Koni Sport adjustable rear shocks with 2 different pairs of rear springs
Ford Motorsport upper rear control arms, SVO Mustang lower rear arms with ES poly bushings
Maximum Motorsports panhard bar
previously installed bolt-in frame connectors, also have a 2-pt and 4-point lower crossmember brace
Maximum Motorsports 4-point bolt-in roll bar with diagonal cross brace and harness bar
Corbeau fixed back seats adapted to Fox sliding tracks

The engine is a good used stock 5.0 HO shortblock, with a set of ported E7TE heads that have new guides and valves as well as upgraded valvesprings. Stock camshaft actuating an old school set of Ford Motorsport blue anodized 1.72 bolt-down roller rockers. Ported stock lower intake with OEM upper, and a 65mm Ford Motorsport throttle body. New in the box Ford Racing shorty stainless headers, BBK (?) 2-1/2” H-pipe, Walker Dynomax 2-1/4” catback with polished LX style tips. New OEM Ford convertible engine mounts. Also have a spare 86 HO engine complete that is a good runner as a backup, just needs valve seals due to age.

Good used stock T5 trans, OEM Ford clutch parts, flywheel will need machining or replacing. Stock driveshaft will need to be shortened 1” to go with the engine setback from the Slot Car crossmember.

I’m sure that there is more that isn't coming to mind at the moment, but I believe that almost everything needed to complete the car is here, save for a few bits and pieces. Asking price for the complete package as it sits is $4500, which I feel is pretty fair considering the condition of the car itself, and the pieces being included. Not many Foxes around our area that are this solid. There are a few other parts that were purchased more recently that could be negotiated in to the deal for someone who is serious about taking everything off my hands.

Car is located in the bottom end of Caledon, just north of Brampton Ontario, and obviously you would need a truck & trailer and a few extra bodies to help get it loaded up. I am not in a crunch situation to sell, so please do not send a message offering $2500 for everything. I will either ignore you or tell you to **** off, depending on my mood at the moment … but I will entertain serious offers from people who actually take the time to have a look in person and discuss the deal. If I do not get any action on selling it as a package within a reasonable amount of time, I will take offers on the shell either as it sits, or with the seats, roll bar, and suspension removed, and start selling off the parts separately. First crack will be given to local Mustangers, then I will go to the U.S. forums if there are no takers here. Send me a p.m., or text or call 647-226-9107.

That's a fantastic deal for the right buyer, I would hope at that price it'll get scooped up fast.
