Hey guys! So I'm pretty new at this, and I don't know a lot about vehicles.. So please bare with me. I just bought my first 2014 Ford Mustang (dream car since forever) about 2 months ago. It's new.. I baby it. Now that winter is here, I'm kinda freakin. I previously owned a 2003 mustang before hand, but this is bigger and better.. And more expensive. People look at me as if I'm crazy.. When I tell them I'm planning on driving it all year round. Well, am I crazy?
So first off, it's a V6. Pony package.. White
Edmonton has pretty brutal winters sometimes, and the roads aren't the greatest. So I need some advice on tires. I can't afford $2000 for separate rims and tires. Would it kill my original rims to keep them on, and buy separate tires? I got a quote from kal tire, rims and ice-x tires for about $1600. Not including tax.
Any other advice for mustang winter conditions would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks guys!

I used Nokian Winters when I was in Edmonton. They worked good on the Stang. You can find them at Kal Tire.

As long as you have winter tires and stay off the gas you"ll be fine. let the traction control do its thing and you're good to go. My GT has no problem in the snow on summer tires when I rip around town with it, within reason of course.

Winter tires and traction control is all you'll need. My gt gets around good around town with summer tires, just stay off the gas and get a run at the hills.

If you don't mind looking at steel rims for the season, you could do a package with the TPMS sensors for around $1000 - $1200 depending on the tire brand. The Crown Vic Police car wheels are good to use as winter wheels on a V6 Mustang, they are 17x7.5", with the correct bolt pattern, offset, and hub hole size. 7W7Z 1007 C is the Ford part number. Not sure which tire option your car has, but you can use 215/60R17 or 215/65R17 for winters on that car with the Police wheels.

Drive it all year round, who cares what other people think, tell them that when they start making the payments on it, you'll drive it the way they think you should. Winter tires are a good investment, but not a must have. Ed's right on the money, no pun intended, for the low buck way to have your cake and eat it too. Go with steelie's and a good set of winter tires, all it takes is one drive without them compared to one drive with them, and you'll be convinced. You just spent all that cash on a new ride, five years from now after five winters of safer driving, the cost up front will mean nothing. Congratulations and welcome, don't forget a couple of bags of kitty litter in the trunk, added weight, and maybe a traction aid if you get stuck.

I agree with what everyone else said.

Get a good set of winter tires. Steel wheels to go with them makes things simpler for switching each spring and fall, if you can fit them in your budget.

Just be smart about your driving and it will be fine.

Last winter I took my Mustang down a street that wasn't plowed. The snow was deep enough that it was hitting the underside of the car. Never had an issue.

Got the winter tires so I'm prepared for whatever hits us! Lol.
Now for sandbags, I don't want to "wreck the suspension" if that's possible. Is 1 sandbag too little or should I throw in 2?

try one and if you feel like you're still spinning lots get another. I'd think one should be enough.
