Advice needed what should I do with my 2v?

I just got a 98 mustang gt with a 4.6L 2v the engine is non-pi and its shot spun a bearing and had oil starvation... so I wanted to know if I was to buy another 2v what can I do to it to make as much power as possible in the 5grand price range? what heads, cams, pistons ect ect I am pretty new to the mustang world but not to cars I will be doing all the work myself and building the engine I am just not familiar with all the best parts. Also would I be better off just getting a 3v or 4v? if so what setup would be best? I am not interested in forced induction either I'd prefer to stay N/A

Thanks!

Welcome aboard.:)
Here is some links to parts to help you out!
Trick Flow® Twisted Wedge® Track Heat® 185 Cylinder Heads for Ford 4.6L/5.4L 2V

Trick Flow® Track Heat® Intake Manifolds for Ford 4.6L 2V

And for cams you have a wide range from Trick Flow,to Comp Cams, and Cushman Motorsports (Use to be VT cams). To date the fastest N/A 2V 4.6 hvae run the VT/Cushman Motorsports stage II N/A cams.I can speak from expirience on those cams as i have them, and love them.

Or you can look for the whole P.I top end,get yourself cams of choice, and go from there.
As for the bottom end, most look for the '03/'04 Cobra engine,or build theirs to similar specs.
Plus on top of that you will need a tune.

We just had this conversation Wed night (cruise in) and the new 5.0 crate motor runs 7000.00 all in except placement

I'd hold on to that 5 grand and start taking back the empties for the other 2 g's. SNAKEBITE's got the idea.:tup

The new 5.0 crate is an awesome idea, but we are forgetting about the rest of the stuff that would be custom for the swap.Exhaust, electronics, drive by wire,ects..
This swap can be done, but will cost in the pocket book until someone comes out with a kit to make it a straight swap.
Better off to look for a '03/'04 Cobra engine complete with harness, and pcm from a wrecked one.Now this would be more of a straight swap with minor details to deal with.

I'm thinking of doing this....

- using my block getting it machined decked/dipped/honed/sleaved ect
- all new seals/bearings
- manley rods
- je pistons 11:1
- not sure which crank... can I use a cobra crank or is my block different?
- trickflow twisted wedge heads
- trickflow intake manifold
- stage 3 cams, super high lift.. but also street able not sure what brand
-kooks longtube headers to 4" collector then just straight 4" stainless to maby 1 high flow muffler
- bigger injectors, not sure what size
- I got a nice CIA, throttle body already

I am sure there must be other people with setups similar to this, what kind of hp/torque could this setup achieve with a good tune ect? If you had to guess.. I know there really isn't an answer to this question.

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks!!!!!!!

Well you've done some homework.Yes the Cobra crank will work, you'll need a 6 bolt flywheel, can't remember what your year model has as there is an 8 bolt aswell. As for injectors,24's will do you fine.:tup
You will be definitely be well into the 300 range with ease, probably close to 350 plus or minus.Could always add the bottle down the road aswell to get you into the 400 range.:D

Does anyone around here run a 4.6L 2v all motor with crazy compression say 12:1 or even higher with really wild cams like 300+ duration? I am so new to 4.6's........ but my dad use to have a 302 with 310 cams 12.3:1 compression and it was wild I want that all motor feeling again it was awesome.

1low03gt 10-29-2010 10:12 PM

I've done some searching, and doesn't look like it for the duration you are looking for.As for the compression, not sure, not a lot of guys talk about the details.I'm sure it's possible. If you haven't,you can look up some cam specs here at these links.
