Cat-Back question

Ok here goes ....

Have a '97GT VERT with an after market H-PIPE no cats. Was wondering bang for your buck sound wise .... what would be the best cat-back. Not to worried at this time about DRONE since I don't drive it (usually with the top on ... :) )

I was looking at the classic Flowmaster cat-back with the new super 44 series muffler or the Deltaflows 40's.

I was also at Carlisle last fall and came so close to getting the PYPES cat-back with Violator mufflers ... but at the last second chickened out cause not sure what it would sound like ....

any suggestions as to what you guys ride out there with a similar car like mine ??

thanks again
Ralph

I personally love the sound the pypes system makes. Hit up youtube to watch some videos of them.

Ralphis 02-02-2010 12:25 PM

I did that (youtube) .. problem is that most of them out there (sound clips) people tend to shove their camera's inside the tailpipe ... u just hear a whole lot of DRONE ....

Will see what else I can find ...

Kaisoboy 02-02-2010 12:44 PM

Allot of reviews I read when searching for exhaust was that guys preferred the Flowmasters. I have flow master axle-backs on mine and people ask me what type I have on there cause they like the sound. After reviewing countless youtube clips I liked the Flows most out of all of them. I gives a nice aggressive sound and a old school muscle feel.

Cheers

I know what you're saying ... i'm leaning more and more on the Flowmaster brand :tup

Kaisoboy 02-02-2010 02:05 PM

Adda boy...I don't think you will regret it. The only thing I reqret is that I did not do it sooner and that I bought them just before they came out with thier stainless American Thunders. :(

Cheers

One more thing ... cause i've been looking around since this morning ... Noticed MAC also. I've seen/heard some decent sounding clips on Youtube + I can get them with 3" tips on my year stang .... things that make you go ummm:?

Kaisoboy 02-02-2010 03:17 PM

One of the other things I did as well was at our regular Wednesday meets I would look at the different stangs with aftermarket exhaust and ask the owner to start her up so I could hear it. Now I was lucky with the S197 as there were allot and most everyone had one of the more popular brands on their car so I heard then all. One thing I found is most of the higher priced brands like Mac, Borla, Steeda, FRPP...ect trumpet vs growl and on deceleration tend to pop from back pressure. The Flows don't do that and that is what allot of folks like about my set up and ask me about. New, they had some drone but now that they are broken in...I love em.

There was a web site that had all the major exhaust brands on it. Let me see if I can find it.

Here you go...

The Deltaflow 40's will be a little more tame in sound. They still sound good, but if you are looking at the 40's,the "originals" as they are called have the classic Flowmaster sound that most love.:tup

Magnaflow.

ChadStang 02-02-2010 10:07 PM

Mac sounds good but aren't the best quality. I've had 2 of their catbacks and the tailpipes always seem to rub and buzz on something. Magnaflow sounds good and is much better quality and fit but more expensive. Flowmaster falls in the middle somewhere. I'd probably go with Magnaflow.

Love the sound of the flowmaster 40 american thunders. GOOD LOUD mustang sound.

Ralphis 02-03-2010 09:59 AM

I have Magnaflow now... it's nice but tame I find ... want something with a little more OOOMMFFFFF if that make any sense .:)

About MAC - it's not the 1st time I hear that the quality is not a par with the others .

Another question ... price wise .. what's the best place in CANADA of course I can get this stuff ... Ex: FlowMaster... seems like if I end up looking in thr states (even with the exchange) it's cheaper....

any suggestions ? Around here there are a few places but one guy wants 495 USD and he's about 20 min from my place .. . and the other well CAD but he wants 440 + taxes ... seems like i'm getting ripped (this is for the flowmaster amercian thunder with the 40's mufflers).

Any suggestions :?

I'm in QC ..... would be nice if they shipped to canada for free ... like alot of the other places in the states ...

Thanks - as usual !
Ralph

Ther are a great bunch of guy to deal with.

You could also try Western Motorsports as well. I don't see anything for your year on there but Shannon may be able to help you out or point you in the right direction.

There is also Steeda Canada. They have a flowmaster system for $490 CAD and are based out of Ontario.

I take it that's the 17112 from the Mustang Shop?
$381.55 tax in to the door is great. They lowered their pricing a couple of months ago. Like I said great bunch of guys. It is really nice when I walk in and they say hey Larry what can we get for you now. LOL I have ordered other things and they have actually phoned me and suggested something else of better quality that I never considered at the same price.

Glad I could help. Hope the Wife gives the OK!!! LOL
