Exhaust/Cats/ETC
Hey;
I am told that the SLP LM2 system (and from what I hear on YT myslef) sounds a lot better with an OR H, which I know isnt legal... But, I have a buddy of mine that cut out 2 of the 4 cats on his 98 GT He said it made quite a difference...Especially with sound Is that legal???Only having half the cats??? The garage only charged him 40 bucks to do it Let me know what you think Thanks |
I don't know if it is legal or not but tampering with stock emissions equipment is illegal in some jurisdictions. Not sure in N.S.
If you have the LM2 and want it louder you can always leave the stock H alone and just buy 2 LM1 mufflers. Your system is modular so you can swap out the 2's for 1's in 5 mins. and you will definitely hear those. You can also just buy a catted H. It will only have 2 cats but they are high flow so you will definitely hear a difference. |

What should I get to go with my SLP LM2 system?
X or H? What brand? Where is the best place to buy, cheapest etc etc |
Personally, I like the H with the SLP catback because it retains a deep muscle car growl.
An X raises the pitch alot more. It is simply a matter of opinion and depends on the sound you like.....HP increases maybe 2-3 with an X versus the H so it's no big deal. A BBK midpipe is a decent price and decent quality. If you are going with long tube headers down the road then you could get an SLP catted X pipe. It is more money but it allows you to use it for stock manifolds and if you ever go with long tubes you can remove the extensions and use it on the headers......this will save you from ever having to buy a new midpipe..thus saving a few bucks. Don't know if you can get either locally for a decent price but I usually buy that kind of stuff from American Muscle. Try some of the vendors here too. Check on the net for soundclips so you can get a better idea of what the x and h soundlike with the lm2 to avoid disappointment. |
Uncatted H-pipe is awesome. I know it isnt exactly acceptable everywhere but I have the stock muffs with OR H-pipe and hola. The car actually sounds good for stock mufflers.

You could argue on this all day really...
Personally myself I use the Prochamber, I would have to say I like the H pipe better. Good luck on your choice! I agree with you the SLP is bad ass! |
i dont know what to do
I have a feeling that the cats on my stock H could be clogged up and robbing me on power I wonder how hard it is to beat the guts out of them and weld them back on???? OR I might just go with the Magnaflow Catted X...$580CAN included extensions (O2), taxes and shipping OR An offroad XorH pipe...But then I would be always nervous about running into one of the road checks...hey had one in the next town over a few weeks ago with the mobile lift and they were checking under random cars and trucks... Yeh I probably am not going to go with an OR XorH haha |
whats the diameter of the pipe on the stock h?
|
I think its 2.25" or maybe 2.50"
Long tube headers, Prochamber mid section, and a SLP LM2 cat back....oh my that would be the baddest off them all :tup |
