porting pi heads

Question, i have a guy thats going to be porting my pi heads and he has been in the porting business for 30 plus years.... is it good to port the intake ports on the pi heads or gasket match them to the pi intake or leave that part alone and just do the exhaust and clean up the valves...i need some feed back here guys.....thanks

Hes been porting heads for 30 years and you need to tell him how to do it?
Run!
As ive said before, let someone who has experience with the mod motors do them.

Just woundering what do you have done to your 96gt and have you raced it at the track or tooken it to the dyno?

With my PI heads I polished the exhaust ports, and smoothed out the intake ports slightly.
I removed the hard edge from the swirl dam, and unshrouded the intake valve.
I did this myself so nothing radical, and no port matching.
With Comps 262ah I made 278/312 to the wheels.
My new setup I am using Trick Flow 44cc heads, and other stuff, made 327/352 at the wheels.

So you didnt have longtube headers on there? And why didnt you go with the comp 270 cams instead....you probly would've made atleast 310wrhp ...maybe more..... see right now i have cai, 74mm tb and plenium , pulleys, sct tuner , and i am planning on the pi heads , ported and i already have the pi intake and 4;10 gears .... i also want the 270 comp cams for the pi heads too... i should be making around 320-340rwhp on the dyno.

300-310 sounds right. Longtubes dont add enough to make it worth the install and the hassle of dropping the tranny for maintenance.
Dyno tests have proven that anything bigger than 70mm TB on a NA motor loses power.
The 262 make more power than the 270 across the usable power band with un-ported heads. Peak numbers on a daily driver dont interest me. How the car drives on the street means more.
And remember with the NPI bottom end you are limited to the aggressiveness of the cam, you end up having to retard it to clear, making less power.

So the 270 cams have been proven to produce more hp with ported pi heads. but do you think with the setup that i am going to be using will produce 320rwhp ......with the following , longtube headers, pi heads fully ported, 270 comp cams, cai, pulleys, 4;10gears, 74mm tb and plenium, sct tuner, x-pipe with cats , no mufflers , flowmaster piping all the way back, msd coil packs and wires.

You may see 320 or really close to it.
If your coil packs arent acting up, keep them. Nothing better than stock coil packs.
It'll definitely be a beast when youre done. Just try not to get too caught up in numbers.
Are you going to do the work yourself?

I aint doing the work myself...thats for sure.lol I was going to ask , why stay with stock coilpacks? I thought msd would be the way to go....way more spark and you usually get alittle more hp cause they burn better than stock especially with a sct tuner....Also i am going to buy pacesetter longtube headers since they are cheap like 269 dollars and they have a 3 inch outlet which will help if i go bigger exhaust. Alot of people go with mac or bbk longtubes , they are dyno proven to make an extra 20hp or so but the cost ..bbk are like 569 dollars and mac's are 424 or something...lot of money just for 20 rwhp.

The MSD may put out more spark, but NA it doesnt make a difference.
The stock coil packs are effective and more importantly, reliable.
Pacesetter are cheap for a reason, read how they dont clear the starter without modding them, and forget about dropping the trans without removing at least the drivers side. And I agree that it is a PITA and $ for 20hp.
Are you paying a shop for all the installs? It is going to get crazy expensive!
