what likes boost more 4.6 or 5.0 ?

i would like to know what handles boost better the 5.0 or the 4.6 ?

and also if anybody knows what is the compression ratio, bore and stroke for both engines.

and how much boost can you run on stock internals for both engines ?

now im just gonna take what knowledge i know and use it here, i may be wrong but ill try.... i believe the 5.0's are stronger engines internally than the 4.6's stock, and i think the compression ratio for 5.0's is 8.4:1, but you may want to get this info checked out

elias_799 09-02-2008 07:22 PM

can anybody give me a link to where i can find all the engine specs for the 4.6 and the 5.0 ?

Spend some time on Google.ca and use the search engine, you should be able to find something.

Change the rods and pistons in the 4.6 and it will handle more boost than your drivers license..............:tup

doing the bottom end on any car is expensive. so it is not an option for me. i just want to buy a 95 and up mustang and throw on a turbo kit. all i want is around 8psi just need to know which engine will handle the boost better(5.0 or the 4.6 2v).

Stay away from the 94-95 302 engines .They have a hyperutectic piston and they are junk!

Good thread, I have always been curious myself!

My advice to you is, if you are goin only run 8psi......stay clear of a turbocharger, it is way to expensive for only 8psi. I would go the route that most Mustang guys do and go cent-SC intercooled. This is the cheapest way to get some boost. Also one of my favourite setups is roots supercharger on a 4.6 or 5.4 DOHC.

Boost should not be the question here. Boost is all relative. It is a measurement of how restrictive the air flow is through an engine. You have a non-pi headed 4.6L making 10 pounds of boost, switch to pi heads and the boost drops to 9 or 8 pounds. Plug up a catalytic converter and you'll make 30 pounds of boost. Torque and HP break engines. 400 torque (rear wheel) is living close to the line. As mentioned rods and pistons are the key. Powered rods are NG. I run a new TTI Magnuson Gen 5 roots on my 2003 GT. I installed new Eagle H beam rods and some Mahle slugs. 408 with a 3.25 upper, 425 with a 3.1 and 445 on race gas. 12.70 @ 112 mph.
C/R on the 99-04 is 9.5/1
