99-04 4.6 vs 05-09 4.6

I was just wondering if anyone has noticed this.
But the gts from 99-04 seem to be louder and/or sound better.
No offense to the ppl who own 05 and up but they jus seem a little toned down to me... even the 2010-11s ? its jus a less raw sound. does anybody else hear that?
also i was talking to a mechanic at metro ford and he said the 4.6 3v is less reliable than the older ones? anyone else heard tht?

This video is jus a quick sample if u dont remember their sounds but i doubt anyone on here will have that problem lol

Could have more to do with the mufflers than anything else, as far as sound goes. I haven't heard anybody say the 4.6l 3V was unreliable, unless you've been talking to that dude that posted up here about blowing up his at 100,000 some odd km. I think that's a weird case anyway. No problems here, and sounds just fine thanks.

Ya it seemed weird to me that ford would build a less reliable engine as they go along. Ya i duno if its a better sound in the older 4.6 its just more raw.

It's funny, was having this conversation with a friend on the weekend about the difference in sound from 2V to 3V to 4V 4.6 engines.
It seems that when a valve is added into the equation, the 4.6 loses that tone in the exhaust note, and they begin to sound more rpmish if that makes sence LOL!You can throw the same exhaust on each of the 3 styles of the 4.6L,but the 2V still retains somewhat that classic tonie sound like the old 5.0L had.
It's definitely in the design of the added valve per cylinder.

my 05gt with 40 flows sounded sweet just like my 99gt with the same. My 09 sounds sweet with Magna's as well

BullittBrock 08-14-2010 12:42 AM

ya i have magnaflow on my Denali it sounds mean

It may have sounded sweet, but it's the "tone" in the exhaust note no matter the muffler of choice that differs between the three 4.6's.They all sound good, but the 2V seems to have a more angry tone out of the three styles of the 4.6.You can run the exact same mufflers on all three styles of the 4.6,and the 2V version just has more tone in it's exhaust note.....and Snake, your '09 has the blown 5.4,that is another sound of it's own,a definite good one none the less!:tup
