Strange Noise Under the Hood Help Needed!

Hey Mustang Community Members,

Currently I own a 07 Mustang GT. I love my vehicle and have not had any issues until recently. I realized that one day when I decided to drive without any music on, I noticed a strange sound coming from under the hood. I believe that this noise is not present during a cold start; however, when the vehicle gets warmer, it starts producing a very strange noise. To better illustrate my point , I found a Youtube clip that resembles the sound that my car produces (
).

All help is much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

D

Are you referring to the clicking sound? I also here a whirring sound. The clicking to me sounds just like the VCT/Cam Phaser system. Very common in F150's but Mustangs can also have the "problem" because they are also a 3V engine like the 5.4L in F150's. It occurs at warm idle because the oil thins out and oil pressure drops, they redesigned the VCT solenoids late in 2007 to get the oil pressure higher to the timing components.

Not really the clicking sound I am concerned about. The whirring sound is what I'm trying to figure out.

It is really hard to tell from a video of someone else's car, but that sound makes me think front drive bearings or possibly throw-out bearing/slave cyl. We can eliminate throw-out bearing if your car is automatic. Are you mechanically inclined at all? If so, pulling the accessory belt off and starting the car (while it is warm enough to make the noise) will tell if it is a idler, alternator, or some other bearing in the front end. Don't run the car long that way...just enough to see if the noise goes away. How many km on the car?

To be honest, I am not mechanically inclined at all aha. Currently, my car has 90,000 km on it. I do feel like I lost a little bit of acceleration, it does not pull as a fast as it should to; however, that could just be mind playing games due to the sound that I am concerned about.
