I agree with 1LOW03GT, there's no real hp difference with a "cai", I'm running a K&N cold air, which uses the factory intake tube, but has an open cone filter with a shield to keep out the heat. I basically wanted it for looks and mpg.

the metal retains the heat from the engine bay, it does not go into the air filter.

I have many datalogs of a steeda cold air box .vs. a stock airbox, air box with drop in and open filter. A shielded air box such as steeda's ran much cooler.

It's not the shield that is the problem,it's the steel tube between the mass air,and the throttle body.You can't even touch that thing after a cruise.City driving would make it worse.You sit there at the light,the steel tube is getting hot,holding hot air which is feeding to the motor,then once you start to drive away,that is when the cooler air is sucked in.Basically,unless your at WOT at all times to get cold fresh air,i feel that it is a waste of money.They look good for car shows though. :tongue:
I just feel that if your cruising around,the air is getting warm from the tube being freakin' hot.Just my opinion though.Each to his own.

I think that you won't NOTICE a hp increase with a cai, unless like Biz said, your car is supercharged. You will notice an increase in gas mileage though. I do agree that certain cais will give a hp increase, just not a big enough one to notice. I'm basically saying that if you're looking for a hp increase, there are better parts that give you more bang fo your buck.

 

Ok. As long as you realize that if your engine is sucking air easier (or colder) to get better gas mileage, it's also going to make more power.
