finally, building a new motor for the cobra

well after 2 years of sitting in my shop collecting dust my pac green 97 is getting a new mill I am doing a stock crank, eagle H beams, probe 10 cc dish pistons to take the comp down to about 9-9.2:1. heads are getting freshened but not ported and crower stage 3 blower cams and springs. along with this are a 90mm MAF and 42# injectors. I already have the stock pump and a T rex but may upgrade. going with screaming demon coils and live wires. hooker long tubes and O/R x pipe. the crowning touch is my existing vortech s trim and the 3.33 pully is going in the bush to be replaced with a 3.125 which should give me 12# all of this will be tuned with sct software and I am hoping to make 500 at the wheels it will be up and running by march 1st. the long wait is due to the fact that I am also polishing the cam covers, tining cover, intake and blower. everything else will be chromed or painted. the engine bay will also be done as stupid ford did not do base/clear on it. only bullitts, machs and 03/04 cobras got that. I am excited

Sounds like a pretty stout combo, but why not port the heads? It would be WELL worth it, especially with a blower.

Mine was 419rwhp at 8psi.

Stock motor, 90mm Lightning MAF, 42# injectors and an AFM Power Pipe... Few little things like 9mm wires and MSD coil packs to try to fix a misfire but otherwise, not much done. I'll be building my motor up too, I want more psi! :gun:

mine only has 80 k on it and was blown for 24k of them. it made 468/433. watch #7 cyl very closely because you are on borrowed time. mine ate the ringlands on that one. very common. I am also now looking at porting the heads but our "B" heads flow quite well and the intake is the restriction anyway. plus cost is a bit of an issue with a shelby on the way :)

Who is building the motor? It is not necessary to port the heads, however, I would suggest removing the IMRC's and a cleanup. Why don't you upgrade to a t-trim with a forged shortblock?

IMRC's will be going away. I was going to upgrade to a t trim but now I just want a nice driver. its a vert and I have other cars to really run hard with. I can get away with 12# easy on my s trim. it still may happen if I need to have the blower re sealed or something but for now I am confident I can make 500rwhp with my combo. I am having it machined here by a friend who owns an engine shop and I am getting another friend to help me assemble it. he has lots of mod experience and has a lx vert with an 01 motor in it.

500rwhp can be made with 12psi...that is easy so u wont have a problem there

You will need at least 42lb injectors, SCT MAF, colder plugs, and i would ditch the hooker headers. They leak very badly and throw idle and part throttle fueling way off. Kooks headers make way more power, sound similar and better and work perfect

ditch the t-rex and run a Walbro GSS340
let me know how i can help

freakshow12 10-13-2006 05:30 PM

thanks for bringing up the headers. I am not totally decided on which ones yet. can you get kooks? how much is the pump? how about injectors? I am going 42's as well. I currentl run tr6's gapped at 35 thou. the blower was on the car before so I had some of it covered. I was running 36's and a lightning meter but may switch that too.
