Intake Manifold Warning!!!

Hey guys, let me tell you about my lovely weekend!!! I got off work Friday night at 7pm. I have been looking forward to putting my 97 GT in the Mustang show in Halifax since I found out about it a month ago. I am out there shining it up until dark Friday night and then I'm back at it waxing before 7am Saturday morning. Ready to roll out with a buddy of mine who has a 99 SVT Cobra. We hit the on ramp of the highway and both step on it to pass a van. I hit about 120km/hr and poof, steam coming out the vents. I get by the van and pull off the road seeing nothing but a cloud of white smoke surrounding me inside and outside the car. We turn around and coast back to the garage and leave it sit for the day. Go into the show with him. He wins a trophy for his body class and THE PEOPLE"S CHOICE AWARD out of 70+ Mustangs there. I get the Hard Luck Trophy for my story. We get home and my Uncle checks out my car.......... Cracked Intake Manifold!!!!!! I'm talking a good 3 to 4" crack along the front coolant crossover! It is being towed to Mahone Auto Monday morning on a flat bed! Just a warning to all you 4.6L 2V Mustang owners. This is a common problem but no recalls have been issued that I can see.

Anyone with a similar story or with a little sympathy RSVP.

no similar stories....but if your getting a new intake, you should look into the 99+ PI intake swap kit. Because the 96-98 intakes are junk. I believe Livernois (spelling??) makes the kit. Comes with a 99+ newer PI intake, and a special spacer to adapt the intake to the heads. This will give your heads some much needed flow. Because what many don't know is the 96-98 heads are not to bad, its the intakes that flow like swizzle sticks

Other then that sorry to hear, and good luck

My stock 2000 intake (14,000 kms on it) is sitting at Steeda.ca right now.

If you contact the shop and work out a deal to ship...all I want is $100 for the piece.

Hey man, sorry to hear about your luck. I stopped by for a while and heard them give out that award for "hard luck". Didnt realize it was you. Sorry to hear it.

Some very nice cars however at the show! :tup My buddy won a few awards too. Best 99-04 i believe was the class. He had the Red Mach 1. Also won for traveling the furthest.

there was a recall on it for the 96-97 intake manifolds... problem is it was only good for 7 years... after that you are SOL

UPDATE: Intake replaced

Hey guys, I got my intake replaced at the Ford Dealership. The new one has a cast alluminum crossover where the cracks usually occur. $583 for the part alone. :banghead: Wish this recall business was easier. I'm going after Ford but I know I'm probably out of luck. Supposedly I missed the 7 year cutoff by 2 months. How can there be a time limit on a recall for a part such as this that they know is faulty and poorly designed?!?

Frustrated and losing faith in Ford!!!

Ford problem

If you take it to your local ford dealer they will replace it. I have had my 96 one done with no problems, ha dit done last eyar. There is a post from ford that if there is a coolent leak that they will replace it.

No such luck

Unfortunately, the recall is only good for 7 years after the date of purchase or delivery date of the car. I missed it by 2 months!!!! And I've tried calling Ford of Canada but that is their policy. So here I sit with a $900 bill because of a faulty part. Ever feel like you were born on a rotten day.
