Piston Slap?
I have a question regarding piston slap...
I took my car to the dealer (still under warranty) and they came to the conclusion I have piston slap. I have the engine noise only when the engine is cold (outside temperature is irrelavant) I hear it when I release the gas just before a shift. Note I do not drive the car hard when cold. I even hear this noise if I baby it till it heats up. Dealer told me the was a normal condition and if the noise goes away after the engine warms up then they will not do anything about it. :bang From all I have read about piston slap it is not a good thing. Any body have any thoughts on this or direct experience with such a issue. :dunno I cannot believe this is normal. If it were you would hear it on every car. My friends cars (exactly the same) does not do this. Thanks. |
With todays piston's and the small clearances you should not have piston slap in my opinion. I would think if you did it would have to be mighy cold outside.

Something aint right about this. The Mach1's do not come with forged pistons, so how they can tell you you're getting piston slap is interesting. The forged pistons can sometimes "slap" when cold, until the heat expands the slug to proper tolerances. This is not the case with hypereutectic slugs. Take it to another dealer for a second opinion. :Weird:
