thunking & cracking
Any ideas on the above mentioned noises. It happens at low speed when the steering wheel is being turned, forward or reverse. I say it is coming from the front and back, my wife says the back. Went to the dealer this morning and upon arriving they informed me that I would need an appointment. Nice 15 wasted kms. I now have an appt for Fri morning.

Tell them to check the upper strut bearing. I've heard about noises being made when turning the wheels (not sure if that's exactly when you're hearing it).

The only time I hear the noise is a slow speed turn-forward and reverse. Thanks for the tip. Seems to be worse in reverse :banghead:

is your car lowered? doesn't really matter but it may not help. this has been discussed many times on the US Mustang boards...apparently it's a known and common problem and a TSB is expected. http://www.corral.net/forums/showthread.php?t=636881 http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?t=536240 http://forums.bradbarnett.net/index.php?showtopic=19613 hth |
Car is still stock thank God :tup Thanks for the info. This gives me some ammo, and hopefully they will fix it the first time. I am the first to admit I am not very patient and the vein in my head twitches at the slighest hint of bullsh*t. (from dealerships) Thanks for your help everyone  Just talked to the service manager and they are going to replace strut bearing. He tells me there will be no recall due to the fact it's not a safety item :banghead:

GRRR I typed up a big reply and hit enter and CMOC f-ed up. BOOOOOO! I hate when I lose posts like that! :banghead: Anyways, I was just going to say: 1) If you get it replaced now, you'll get the older parts and expect them to fail again. It may or may not...who knows, but guys online have had them replaced more then once...Ford IS figuring out a fix for this, and there WILL be a TSB on it, but it may not happen until May. Just because it's not 'safety' related, doens't mean they'll ignore it. Keep on top of the US forums and you'll get all the info you need. 2) If you're getting huffy over this, buckle up. This is the first model year of a brand spanking new design. There WILL be flaws and kinks...and the suspension clunk and gas tank vapour lock problem (or whatever it is) are just a couple of those kinks. That's the price you pay for being the first one on your block to have the latest and greatest. :chacha: It took Audi 7 years to officially acknowledge to it's A4 owners (me) that there was a control arm bushing problem that caused creaking and thumping. I had various ones replaced under warranty on three separate occasions, and in the grand scheme of things, I didn't really care. I wasn't paying a dime so really...what's the problem if everything else about the car is a blast!? I mean, how would you feel if you were a brand new M3 owner that just had his engine blow? These things happen, even to the 'best' of brands. 3) Be friends with your dealerships. Sugar will get you much farther then vinegar. They're not "out to get you" - and besides, Ford dealers are everywhere - if you don't like the one down the street, go around the corner. :tup I bought my A4 from Queensway, but didn't like the service, so I used to go all the way to Brampton or when I was in school, I'd take it to London. Right now I can think of at least 4 Ford dealers that are within 20 mins of my house. Just trying to keep you sane...cars will never be perfect, because if they were, car makers would go out of business. FWIW - this post isn't necessarily directed at you - but more to everyone. After being on internet automotive and motorcycle forums for 7+ years, I get kinda grumpy about certain things. :) |
Excellent advice. I called the service manager and what a pleasant fellow. We both agreed to wait as to not waste our respective time. Earlier whilst talking to the front line people I received a migrane. The sugar approach with the manager seemed to work. Thanks for all of your help :tup

Also, just as a helpful resource, here's a link to all the official TSBs, updated as they come in: http://forums.bradbarnett.net/index.php?showtopic=16258 |
