1988 saleen transmission swap to automatic
 

Hi folks, i am going to do a tranny swap, from a 5 speed to a auto, i have a 88 5.0 Saleen and my wife wants to drive it , she cant drive a 5 speed, so auto it is any advice where to find one , what other parts will i need, what kind etc any help would be greatly appreciated thanks in advance, oh ya and just in case someone is wondering why??? its because my0/3 cobra is a 6 speed and no way does it get a auto, soooooo the 5.0 gets the auto:tup

Happy hunting. It sounds like the wife is dead set against learning the 5sp thing which is a shame. She does not know what she is missing but then you know that already. Good luck with the swap.

Lot's of places sell rebuilt AOD's Doug. Talk to Barry at Performance Unlimited.

You also need the TV cable.

The tranny crossmember can be modified to fit the AOD.

The best thing is to contact VBRPete. He can provide a lot of info and do the conversion for you at a reseaonable price.

The real good thing is that all the takeoff parts have value.

A genuine '88 Saleen ..... buy her an automatic 5.0 and leave the Saleen original. Just my 2 cents.

Do your self a favor and do a AODE swap. Just my opinion, I have owned a AOD and they are not the best trannys

Had to read that one twice dude - usually you see guys going the other way, but I get where you're coming from. They don't say "Happy wife, Happy life" for nothing!! I think VAEM hit it best though - you don't own a car like an '88 Saleen and use an auto trans. That babies built for gear-jammin'!!!!
