'86 GT Troubles
 

Helllooo everyone,
So this is the story: I filled my car up with gas a while ago and immediately after I started the car and attempted to drive away it stalled out. I tried to restart but it wouldn't catch. Now the engine turns over it but it will not start.
I have tried these things:
Fuel pump check; I disconnected the fuel line right after the fuel filter and ran the pump which sprayed clean fuel out of the filter.
I checked the lines for holes and kinks
After those two things I checked the sparkplugs and re-gapped them. None of them were excessively worn or burned. I have brand new FRPP plug wires and my distributer looks fairly new.

I'm just wondering if anyone has had this problem with their 5.0 and if anyone can help me out before I just get it towed to my mechanic (I'd rather do it myself).

Are you getting spark ?

No idea. How would I go about checking that?

i had this same problem with my 88 Trans Am...

i had to replace the ignition module..


make sure you are getting spark from the ignition...

check the coil?


or maybe im r-tarded and giving useless information :P

to check if you are getting spark to your plug wire ends remove 1 plug wire from spark plug, fit a screwdriver in the plug end , rest on engine or have someone hold by the plug wire close but not touching the metal of the motor and crank IT OVER you should be able to see the blue electric arc of the power from the wire DO NOT TOUCH THE METAL OF THE SCREWDRIVER OR REST YOUR HAND ON THE MOTOR UNLESS YOU WANT AN INSTANT AFRO!!!!
Hope this helps. If you have no spark at the plug end do the same test at out end of coil wire

So here's the latest. I checked for spark and there's no arcing when I check so I replaced Distributer cap, rotor, as well as the ignition coil...still no spark :(

Most likely a bad TFI module. It's on the distributor with a bunch of wires going to it. Get a quality Ford replacement, the jobber units are usually scrap.

Had the same problem. Turned out to be the ignition module.

Same here,was banging my head without any solution, turns out that the trouble was with the "ignition module"
