94 GT.........Temperature issues
Hey guys,
Well new problem just started..............when the car sits there idling.......the temperature slowly climbs.............I start driving at about 100km/h..........boom comes back down.............I took a look and the fan isn't going..........the temp needle went up to R and I shut her down......Usually at Idle she doesn't go past the O..........anybody know what this could be..........relay? Fan? Help Thanks |
With the engine / key shut off, have you checked if the fan seized?

There was a recall on the 94 / 95 models to install an additional module directly on the fan connector. If you have this module it could be that module causing the problem. That module was added to eliminate the possibility of fires in case the fan seized.
If you don't have that module I would check to see if the recall is still outstanding and if it is I would take it in to have it done. The module does have two non replaceable fuses on it. BTW, if you have a thicker aftermarket rad that module won't fit. Pm sent |
May have found the culprit........please help me confirm.....
Well when all this started I just decided to have my fan hard wired with a relay and a switch..........etc etc...........this works.........but draws a real crap load of current........like enough to make the voltage gauge take a hit to half way and then come back..............OUCH! This combined with the fact that they are calling for a dry and very hot summer........I decided to try and trouble shoot my stock system properly. All this no fan operation started after my rad went and I had it replaced............along with the thermostat........and rad cap(aftermarket MOTO RAD with the red flip lever). Worst thing is the fan would come on the odd time but other times it wouldn't and cause me to nearly overheat.
Bought a multimeter and a test light. Now connected to the fan you have an orange wire..........red wire.........and of course ground the black. The orange wire is presently hooked up to the relay which activates it and sends power to the fan when I flip the switch. Therefore the orange wire coming from the CCRM was accessable. So I let the car come up to operating temp like 3/4 of the gauge..........around the M and A area in NORMAL. With my test light and meter nothing was coming out.........0 V. I decided to unplug the temp sensor...........plug right near the alternator........2 wires coming out of it...........fired up my car..........put the light on it......I had juice coming from the CCRM which made it seem like the fan would be on if hooked up.........checked the voltage...........14.56V. So I stopped the car.......plugged it back in..........back to 0V. After talking to a mechanic buddy......he told me it sounds like my temp sensor is toast........ Opinions anyone? If that's all this is I will be very very happy...............although this switch thing is fun.......I want my car back to normal and if a switch is used it will be to run the fan at the track for extra cooling with use of the stock set-up. So guys what you think???? Temp sensor fubbared or what? Sorry if my post is long. |
Could be the ccrm or the sensor.
The OR/LB is for high speed fan and the R/O is for low speed. If you have air conditioning, with the engine idling at any temperature if you switch the air to max the cooling fan should come on right away. That will pretty much proves the ccrm is good, at least for one of the fan speeds. To check the ccrm with the car running you can ground pin 17 on the ccrm(LG/P) and the fan should come on. Pin 17 of the ccrm is where I have a toggle switch wired to so I can manually turn on the fans at any temp. There is no need for an additional relay if you wire the N/O switch to this pin and the other side of the switch to ground. This method does rely on a good ccrm module though. Did you check into the recall? |

Did you check into the recall? Yeah I did look into that recall.........I have 2 others but nothing about the additional module you are talking about. Oh well. I did read an article on this Pin 17 thing. After I get all this straightened out I will look into it. Could it also be that there is something wrong with the fan? I may head to a Mustang shop today to have them look at it. Forgot to mention that I have A/C but it is no longer working and even hooked up for that matter. The compressor had seized. It's bypassed. Let me know. |
