can anyone shed some light on this setup?
From what i read it is a 89-95 Thunderbird SC on a 5.0 V6SPROUT.... don;t these blowersd have to sit level for lubrication reasons?
Anyone seen one of these units used on a 5.0 before? anyone know what sort of power increase it would give you? http://www.oa5599.us/images/v8.htm3.jpg |
Joe, look up AlexLTD (or something along those lines) over on www.corral.net that is a pic of his motor. I know the car has been well into the 11's at about similar MPH as your car and is a home built set-up.
It was also in MM&FF magazine a while back too. |

It was also in MM&FF magazine a while back too. wow! is that with a stock blower? I know the 94-95's were better blowers. I wonder what year this guy's is. If that blower is enough for a stock 5.0, why do the 3.8L guys feel the need to upgrade them? I am impressed. |
The 89-93 ones were inefficient, the 94-95 ones were improved. I can't tell which that one is because as far as I know, you can only tell by the port openings in the back.

Having been a Supercoupe owner for 4 years, I'm struggling to see how that would fuction due to the lubrication.
In regards to the 89-93 M90 blowers being inefficient, that's not really the case. I was pushing 15psi with ease on that car. The 94-95's pushed a bit more CFM through the opening. |
It's more about the power dropoff at higher RPMs. It still makes good power and I hope to have mine on soon. My brother isn't being any help so I'll probably learn to do an entire engine swap on my own.

nope, they don't have to sit level, you can mount them anyway you like from what I have been told. The gears inside pull the oil around each gear and lubricate them. THey can even be mounted upside down, the Saleens blower kit used to be an inverted Supercoupe blower, they just made a new flange and left the stock bolt holes untouched, you can actually see it in the pics, the new Saleens use a custom blower now.
I have seen TWIN SC blowers on a 351 Turbocoupe setup. Now this is a cool custom setup, check it out. http://www.toohighpsi.com/SCTC/sctc.htm |
