Changing timing and water pump gaskets

Need of your experiences.

My Mustang needs the following work done:

1. Water pump gasket and maybe water pump
2. Crank Seal
3. Timing cover gasket

While you were doing this is there anything worth doing. ie. Underdrive Pullies?

Thanks,

Anyone have any ideas?

well I find that using an RTV silicone sealant on the gaskets when installing the water pump adds a little insurance in making sure it never leaks. Also If you have the underdirve pullies then yes, install them while you are doing this, its kind of like killing 2 birds with 1 stone. Its also a good time so do some cooling system maintence, since changing the waterpump requires draing the fluid, change your thermostat also (if it hasn't been changed, or atleast for a while its better to do preventitive maintence now then having to drain the coolant after when the thermostat fails)

^I'd do the t/stat and water pump, but I never put silicone on gaskets, unless there's a seam. The timing chain should be OK with 180-they're usually good to 300k-ish. Just be careful not to damage the oil pan gasket as it will leak after if there's even a small tear in it (assuming it's rubber, if it's cork-you'll be OK with some silicone).

Should I change the timing from stock 10 to ??.

Does that really make that much of a difference?

Slight difference, I usually run at 14deg. but every car is different. Some need premium fuel to counter spark knock, none of my 3 last ones did though.thumb:

Does changing the timing make that much of a difference?

Thanks,
