Charging problem

done the basics, everything seems to be alright but the battery keeps draining every 4-5 days. [I] can drive her, but have to charge the battery all the time.. Any solutions besides changing the alt./ battery. I am really not sure what else to write here. Its an 88, 5.0Lx. I would get a surge off power before the car leaves me stranded on the side off the road.

You might wanna try a new Alt.
Or there is something live and its draining the battery.

It sounds like a draw on the battery(something is on all the time, ie glox box light, trunk light etc etc) Put and amp meter in series with the battery(do not turn the key on!!) There should be no more that 1/4A draw with everything turned off....................

its not the alt., ive tried 4 different ones, when on the battery reading it shows amp at 18 with everything connected, when you take the cable of the post still reading the same. I was told it should read about the 2-3. I have only checked wiring under the hood, just because i figure i would be blowing fuses anywhere else. Basically checked everywhere. I might of found a solution over the weekend, the car died, it seems like its not getting any fuel, I am hoping there is something wrong with the wiring back there. Could it be possible that its drawing from there. thanks for reply

thanks for repling, battery is fine, had it tested, there is a draw somewhere, no one can find it. It is a mystery machine.lol..

easy.......hook up amp meter as I stated in previous post. Then start unpluging fuses one at a time whilist watching the amp meter(here is a little tip and the only reason I say this is because I have seen tech's do it. When unplugging fues make sure the door is shut lol) 194 peanut bulb draws about 2.25 amps. If you get the meter on it post a the reading, I might be able to point you in the right direction................
