ECT problem?
Newbie's here!!
Can the ECT cause an intermittent misfire at startup? When I start the car, it'll misfire for awhile then goes back to normal for as long as I don't stop the engine... Can anybody tell me where this sensor is placed on the engine. Just bought the car and haven't had time the get familiar with what's under the hood. I want to fix this ASAP cause it's crapping my oil fast... |
Misfire usually means timing....I wonder if the timing gear jumped a tooth...?
Any ways to answer your question, the ECT sensor is located on the lower intake near the front of the engine. Hey go here, and scroll to the bottom there is a list and a detailed picture #35 is what your looking for! https://www.cmoc.ca/forums/t9820/ |
Thanks! Wouldn't it misfire continuously if the timing gear was off a tooth? Like I said, after a couple of minutes sputhering and misfiring, the engine starts running like a charm untill I stop it for a while... I'll check on the ECT and give you the results...

Yes it can cause a misfire at start up when its cold,... does it run fine once its warmed up? If it does definitely ECT.

My possible misfire is odd though, does misfiring on two cylinder banks cause a delay in turn over? say holding that key for an extra 10 seconds?

Jeez, after five years, I hope the guy got it figured out.

He'll need to log on to get that input I reckon, hasn't been active since Sept 2009, he's long gone and the problem likely is too, but definitely valuable info for anyone having a similar issue.
