Failed E-test on a 1994 Mustang GT......HELP
 

Hey boys,

Well hopefully you guys can help me out cause I need it............took my new stang in for an e-test and she failed by little!

What if failed on is the following


HC ppm Limit 57 Result 54 Passed(close though)
CO% Limit 0.32 Result 0.76 Fail

Now we cleaned the air filter which is a K&N.............cleaned an re-oiled................I changed the oil.......synthetic..............What could possibly be the cause.........even my buddy who sold it to me is shocked cause she passed with flying colours. The plugs are about 2 years old.................could that be a problem........? The rest of the test.....the results are great.........we are dumb founded.......any suggestions? Help!

I hate e-testing! The car runs awesome by the way! I had fresh super in the tank..........the sensors have never been cleaned......which may need it..................but which ones?

Try setting the ignition timing to 8* BTDC and run REGULAR gas in it for the test. If you want to be extra safe, add 2-3 bottles of Gas Line Antifreeze. How many KM are on the spark plugs? I usually replace my plugs every 25k km. Take a look under the distributor cap as well, sometimes the terminals and the tip of the rotor get some oxidization on them. Clean that up with a wire brush or sandpaper. If the cap and rotor dont look good, replace them. And if you havent done so, replace your PCV valve in the back of the lower intake manifold anyways. It's only a few bucks, probably wont make much if any difference but why not?

hmm i was always told to run priemuim for the e-test :confused: :confused:
and then give it a good hard drive right before you take it in to blow all the out.
what about cleaning the MAF sensor in the airbox? 94 had that right?
good luck.

Last things you wanna do is run premium (unless it needs it due to comp and or tune) or run it hard just before being tested.
Confirm it's........
-ok for tune up
-knock timing back to stock or lower
-fresh oil change
-air filter clean
-clean EGR
-good shot of methyl hydrate
-regular gas
-take it in hot by cruising not beating on it hard

Try the plugs maybe it'll do it for you. gas line antifreeze works good too, it's just alcohol and burns clean

Definitely run regular, because higher octane fuels burn off slower.

Also what T stat does the car have in it? No one went to a 160* or something did they? Put a stock temp T stat in for E test. The timing as mentioned is a important thing.

I had to do some little tweaks get Stock86GTs car to pass because it's got a bunch of miles [300000 + klicks] and I think the valve seals have had it... even his car squeaked by though. :tup

I opened the pug gap a tad, 8* timing, hooked up my MSD, THICKER [15W40 I think - i forget now] than stock non synth oil, and the tester allowed me to sit in the car as it was getting tested & with the elcetric fan on a switch I kept the car around 210*. :biggrin: We all thought it was going to fail because the test went on.. and on... and on... and on... and on... and then stopped.. and the guy said "oh f**K look at that it fooled us all :laughhard " and started laughing.

My first feeling was "whew..".

Well let me tell you that my buddy just brought the 94 GT back and wholly mother of god the tune up really woke it up HUGE! It was running like a dead turd before.......hesitating and seemed to be missing..............Hope this will be my ticket to a clean e-test............a couple of my plugs were loose too before..................all good now though...........thanks for all the tips.....I will let you know how it goes.........

If it made that much of a difference, I'm sure it'll be just fine now. Enjoy it while she runs perfect

Well everybody..........

E-test is tomorrow afternoon...........my buddy told me to dump 4L of Methyl Hydrate into a 1/2-3/4 of a tank of gas and try that out...........is that too much alcohol.....? Anyhow I will let you guys know........
