Fox Coupe Steering Woes

Hi... was wondering if anyone knows of any options in regards to different ratio steering racks (power steering). I don't think I like the 20 turns lock-to-lock the coupe has. (I'm exaggerating with the 20 turns obviously)

I'm looking for something tighter and more responsive than the factory one. Also, a tilt column would be excellent.

What's out there?

Thanks!

You could go to a flaming rivers quick ratio manual rack and put in a tilt steering column from an older stang....i know it's not power, but i used to drive with the power steering disconnected with no problems so an actual manual rack wouldn't be bad :)

I could only find quick ratio non-assisted racks. I guess no one makes an assisted one...

In regards to the manual rack - what is the difference between the manual & assisted, other than the obvious difference in effort required at low speeds?

the manual racks weigh a lot less and free up horse power by eliminating the need for a powersteering pump to be turned by the motor. i had an old s15 pick-up with a factory manual rack, you could hardly tell it wasn't power. i wish all cars cam with manual racks :P

OK

As stated above... what do you want to put in my car?

I'll get you a pre '90 tilt column (which means you cant run the airbag steering wheel), and I want to find out how different the 99-04 steering rack is because its alot sharper than the old fox style rack. The fox rack has a pretty bad on-center dead spot whereas the 99+ cars feel a little nimbler and more in touch with the road. They also steer alot better. I'll have to see how much they are, but I think its probably the cheapest alternative. I have no experience with the Flaming River quick ratio manual so I cant comment there.

OK...

Price it out.... might as well.

TAKE PICS as you're working on it! If you don't have a digicam, I'll come by and snap some pics.

Let's carry this on via PM.

Also, can you find out if there are any ways to modify the steering ratio? If anyone else knows please feel free to chime in.

Thanks!
