gas gauge not going past half
 

Hi, i have recently noticed when i fill my gas tank the gas gauge only shows a little over half. As i drive and use fuel it seems to go down ok, i have not driven it long enough on a full tank to see if gauge goes all the way down. Any idea what is causing this? I have heard about sending unit and floats but do not know where to start. I have a 1992 5.0 LX hatchback.

Definitely sounds like a sending unit or float problem. Are you planning on repairing yourself? If so then first step is to remove the tank to see if the float is sticking.

Hi, no I will not be able to repair myself so I will have to go somewhere to have a look at it. Is sending unit expensive?

Part looks pretty cheap. Labor shouldn't be more than a couple hours
