Horsepower
Good morning,
Any ideas on the possible HP of an 89 5.0 with: GT40 heads, B Cam, Long Tube Headers, High Flow Cats, Gear Drive Timing. |
My guess is about 250 to the wheels???
|
I'm guessing 265.
Do we get a CTC Gift Card if we guess right?? |
Want a CT gift card? See me thread about the GE Nighthawk ads! lol

Should be 225 stock to wheels on an 89 5.0, shouldn't it? My guess? 260-270, probably closer to the 260. Just a guess though.

stock is 225 at the CRANK. Your set up should net somewhere in the 250-275 WHEEL HP.

Well,
Seeing as you were 225 at the crank stock..and I assume you also have a cold air kit of some sort I would guess around 250 HP at the rear wheels and about 305 at the crank..maybe a bit more but as we don't know if you did a complete exhaust, whether there is an under drive pulley kit installed..that sort of thing...hard to say for sure..best bet get a dyno tune and then you'll know. |
Me thinks they over rated the 87-93 5.0. I thought my 90gt had 225hp but they rerated the 5.0 to 205 which sucks but. I guess 255hp:wiggle:

The '93 Cobra was rated at 255hp at the crank with a weak cam and 1.7 rockers, and Cobra intake. The gear drive doesn't add power, but can change the powercurve if you've got the cam degreed differently. The B cam is junk, and peak numbers don't tell the whole story. Peak numbers, if I had to guess (not knowing any other parameters of the engine), I would estimate this engine to make about 230-240hp at the wheels, which is about 270-280 at the crank. Low RPM torque suffers with the B cam, and by this I mean that with another cam (ie Stock 5.0 HO cam) it may not make more peak HP and torque but would most definitely be a faster car. SS |
