how much nitrous can a stock 5.0l take?

just wondering what kinda shot a stock 5.0l can take..its my buddys car and itsa 88 lx notch...hes running a 150 shot as of right now and has a full fuel system done and ignition..he's wanting to up the 150 shot to a 200. Iv heard these motors take nitrous nicely, can anybody elaborate on this?

The 5.0's do take nitrous nicely due to the forged pistons, though due to lack of experience, I can't suggest a safe nitrous limit.

:)

as the long as the appropriate amount of fuel is present, it will be fine on a 200 shot... lots of old streetracers ran the 250 big shot on stock motors, the weakest link becomes the T5 transmission, not the motor.

very true, a buddy of mine sued to have a 5.0l on a 275 shot with the t5 and he pretty much went through a new tranny every month. the tranny would only hold for like 5 runs at most on the juice.

I put a 350hp shot through a stock bottom end for a full year with no problems. the block had 180 000 kms on it. :tup

I've seen 200 so that's probably a good number to stick with. :tup

As I remember it, the 93 and up motors have the "hyperutectic" (cheap) pistons and they don't like a lot of abuse. I'd take it easy with one of the later 5.0s, unless of course, the pistons have been changed for forged ones.

ya his motors a 89, so hes got he forged pistons

if its a totaly stock motor it will be a waist putting anything more then a 175 shot in it because the stock heads will not flow well enough to make use of the extra power

you got that right. 125-150 shot is perfect.
