Intake spacers

Hey everyone.

I won't be swapping engines for a year or two. So i want to squeeze as much power for cheap as I can out of my 5.0

Do intake spacers really work and give you more torque by increasing the runner length and reducing heat?

Do any of you have one and did u feel a difference?

Intake spacers are usally 1/2" think, so the length of the runner will not result in any noticeable extra torque. As far at the heat trasfer part, it gets hot under the hood. The spacer MAY help but, nothing worth your time. If you don't want to spend alot of money, then don't spend any. Its just not going to go "fast" unless you spend money, lots, and lots, of money. Saying that, under drive pulleys are under $100 (i think) and should give you 5 to 10 hp. But I don't think anyone will call a 5.0L mustang with pulleys fast.

I have a 1" spacer on mine, but its a TFS-R, so I was out for that 1" increase in runner length to bring the power band down a tad.

Thanks for the info...

Well the only mods my car has are 3.73s, headers, hi-flow cats, 2chamber flowmasters, K&N, silencer removed and bumped timing. Has a Pro 5.0 as well. So any little power I can squeeze out of it i'd be happy till my engine swap. I'll spend a little but rather save it.....

any other ideas besides pullies?

Electric fan and 3G alternator conversion.

yes an electric fan and 3g will free up power you can actually feel.

I did mine last summer and was very surprised with the difference.

gut as much weight as possible. removeve all the tar and sound deadener from under the carpets, yank the front sway bar, if you have the nerve pull the front bumber too...

The spacer would help if you were already running high horsepower. With most bolt on mods in magazines the "awesome" horepower gain of like 10-15 hp gain for removing the intake silencer and so on is on high hp motors. Go with a short belt and get rid of the smog pump, underdrive pulleys, reduce weight, and port your intake & heads are some of the lower cost things to do.

Oh yeah, do your timing too.

I used to run a phenolic spacer with a Cobra intake. Only thing I noticed was that it raised the intake just high enough to rub on the underside of the stock hood. :banghead: I didn't notice any performance improvements, and because of the extra layer was constantly fighting vacuum leaks.
