Problem with my cooling fan
 

Hi all,

I have a 1994 Mustang Gt with 5 spd.

Saturday morning my rad started leaking pretty bad. So I took it to my mechanic's to get it fixed and he replaced the rad/cap and thermostat. So last night as he was wrapping up and bleeding the system and all........he noticed the fan wasn't coming on. Now I have had the fan take a long time to come on before like the gauge would go up to 3/4 and then it would kick on and bring the temp down...........this would happen when the seasons were in transition like spring........or in the fall time...other then that usually it would be nice and running cool. The water pump has been changed.........about a couple years ago I believe. So I am at home with it today kinda trying to do it on my own but at my whits end. I used an OBD tool to see if I could get codes...........none at all........and now all of a sudden my anti-lock braking light comes on and stays on..................

Please help!

There was a safety recall on the 94/95 cars for the fan.
The recall was to check the fan operation and add another module to eliminate a fire if the fan became defective.
If the recall was never done on your car you might luck out.

I will check it out tomorrow for sure if the dealers are open. Right now a buddy of mine is gonna give me a hand and we are gonna hard wire it with a switch........the fan itself seems to work.

My fan started to work all of a sudden lastnight..............once the gauge went far enough...............between M and A in the NORMAL of the gauge..............I may hard wire the darn thing regardless..............control that on my own..................thanks for the help and I will however look into the recall.

Thermostat........some one please chime in.......
 

Hey guys...sorry to be a pain but I was talking with a friend of mine tonight who used to be a mechanic and I was telling him what my car does.......when I drive the temp is fine.........when the car sits and idles......it heats up to the "A" and "L" area on the gauge. He said it could be a thermostat cause it is an autopak t-stat. He has had bad luck with them in the past. He told me I should get a Ford t-stat. Any opinions??? Could a bad t-stat cause this..........It says STANT on the box.........the guy who fixed my car told me they were really good......... :confused:

I know it's annoying but I love my car and before the rad was changed..........the temp always stayed around the "N" or "O" area.

A stat wouldn't cause a problem like this, if it was bad, it would do it all the time. Sounds to me like there's air in the system, the temp sensor can't read air, it needs to see fluid. You need a special tool to properly bleed some cars, you can try running the car with the rad cap off, and see if the air will bleed out that way, does the heat work?

Yeah the heat works.........and there's lots of it............You're not the only one that says that about air in the system..........So I take it if the stat was garbage that even on the highway it would act up? Should I take her to a shop and get her bled properly? Don't they call bleeding the system "Burping"? Can I just leave the car idling with the cap off?

yes you can, after a while when the engine heats up fluid may come out, as well as air, if it works it way up there.
