Timing Question
A while back i had posted a thread about the car having a "bucking back and forth"problem/shitty idle. So i checked the timing on my 87 5.0, it was way off, running 8°. Bumped it to 10°, engine smoothed out instantly then advanced it to 12°. Car has never had this much power since i put the mods I have on it, its a blast to drive, idle is perfect and the bucking stopped (cross-fingers it stays like that). Anyways on to the question:
When i did the timing i followed these instruction: -Turn off car -Pull of the spout connector near the distributor -Loosen the Distributor hold-down bolt -start car -Using Timing light set engine timing to desired degree -Tighten the Distributor hold-down bolt -Recheck Timing to make sure tightening didnt change setting -Reconnect spout connector -Enjoy car I noticed when i replugged that spout connector that the timing jumped to 22°, I was like WTF, shutoff the car, restart the instruction but the timing was back at 12°, plug the spout back in and again it jumps to 22°. I'm guessing this is normal? Nothing noticable changes when i plug the spout connector back in except for the bump in timing. |
Good luck, I would not even know were to begin lol

reading up its normal, has to do with initial timing and then the computer takes over and controls spark timing or some like that.

I would think one of the guys in the know will be along shortly.

X3 on the running right. What's next on your list of things to do?
