What heads you running?

I am just wondering what heads you are running and how they work for you.

As this is one of the biggest buys i will have for my car when i decide to do it i was wondering what everyone else was using. I was thinking about edelbrock performer's but am now leaning towards afr 165's.

Let me know what you have....

Edelbrock's / 0-ringed

AFR's here, semi-big AFR 205's though. Locally we have 4 of us running AFR's from the smallest to the largest and in my opinion they are also making some pretty decent power.

Joe (91mgt) has the 165's on his Powerdyne combo, rough tune still trapping in the 119mph range with more to be had, Doug (T. Baggs) has 185's on his N/A 306 running 11.6 @ 119, mine has run 10.30's @ 131 with untouched 205's on a 408 and Clint's (NOVI342) has the 225's on his blown 342 and has run 9.40's @ 148.5mph.

All in all they are a decent head that I wouldn't hesistate to recommend to anyone.

I had Edelbrock 6037's on my old blown 302, they were pretty good as well. No real complaints with them, they took me into the 10.7's @ 126 with boost.

I have a set of AFR185 going on my car this winter... :D don't know what kind of power they will produce but its gotta be better than the E7TE's on it now LOL :D

I still have the stock heads that have been ported. :D OH wait I am just a little V6, haha I wish we had aftermarket heads for the V6 but then again the stock V6 heads flow really really well when ported, comparible to many decent aftermarket heads, not like AFR's but still not bad for stock ported heads, we are blessed with factory aluminum heads though, no crap steal heads. :tup

Guys, You'll never believe this, but I have a COMPLETELY Custom set of heads made ESPECIALLY for my motor, and my cam is ALSO specially designed for my motor!!!!!

:tup

Sure they're 17 years old, but meh, stock works pretty well.

IMHO it's hard to go wrong with either AFR 165's or Edelbrock performers, if your buying used a set of performers can be had pretty darn reasonable.

heads

I have AFR165's ....nice head, best scavaging exhaust port in its class. If I had to do it again I would've tried out the TFS twisted wedge head....with the 2.02 intake valve, it limits you to cam selection on a stock shortblock, but if you flycut you can run just about any lift/duration and there is more room to grow with the TFS. If you are planning on staying NA for a while (like me) than the AFR165's are a good choice, the smaller volume intake runners (165cc) keep up the intake charge velocity and make great torque just what an NA car needs. But if you are planning on running forced induction you might want to look at a head with a larger volume intake runner like a AFR 185 ...TFS twisted wedge .....Brodix ST50 or even the Edelbrock perfomer or RPM. You cant beat the bang for the buck of the Edelbrock heads, they make power up there with all the other heads and they are very durable, good valvesprings, thick deck and just about every hole is helicoiled. The AFR's are not helicoiled in the intake bolt holes or the exaust port holes (lots of antiseize required) and they can only be used with 7/16 head bolts not 1/2 (edelbrock can be used with both). All in all I am happy with the AFR's but I cant compare them through personal experience. They made good average power and great torque and I went through one hell of a time to get a set up here. The heads are on a made to order basis very few shops in north america actually stock them because of their price and there is usually a 4 week back order. I was very lucky to get my set through DSS inc.

Have you considered taking your stock heads and having them re-worked?
