Earl Hardy Big Rig Nationals, Grand Bend

This weekend Sept 10th, the Earl hardy big rig nationals are on. The whole weekend is pretty sweet, friday is normally the regular night. Saturday they should have their top sportsman class and everything else,( ie. the 6 and 7 second cars and slower)

Sunday is dedicated to the trucks, both pickups and transports. "The smoking gun" is there again, and last year he ran a 12.3 or 12.8 i believe, and did the best burnout i've ever seen. It's also a truck show, not huge by any means, but there will be some nicer rigs there.

So if anyone is in the area closing up the cottage, or likes watching trucks race, it's about the last show of the year to have truck racing involved.

definately wasn't as good as last year, oh well, the racing was half decent, but i'm glad i didn't get the KW out for the show. Hopefully weather is better and there's more trucks so we can go next year.

the smoke gun was running terrible times, high 12's and 13's, they said he had alot lower times (high 9's low 10's capable i'm pretty sure they said)on other tracks. It seemed like off the line he was spinning a bit, and he definately had some clutch problems, sounded like it was slipping all through 1st and part of 2nd, but that's what you get with approx. 4000HP marine engine :5: It has an auto tranny now to.

The other trucks weren't overly fast, there was one "sleeper" there, he had a plain but clean looking truck, he had to have a high HP engine with some goodies, but i never heard anyone say he did, he was just running low 17's i believe. Alot of the trucks were in the 18-22 second times, most of the Laidlaw guys were 21-22 secs, i'm sure due to their c-13's upped to 425 hp.

For semi's though they prepped the track, and most of the guys didn't notice as they were in the staging lanes. As soon as they did that everyone dropped .5 secs of their time, and EVERYONE was going over except the guys who missed gears. It sucked for alot of the guys who had their times dialed in perfect, and all of a sudden they hook a little better and drop .5-.7 secs off their time. that's how aberfoyle lost out, he didn't know you could change your time on the window, so tried to dog it going down the track, and he still broke out. Anyways, hopefully next year will be a better weekend, and we'll bring the KW out (or the 87 R model we just picked up :5: )
