Vapour Separator Help

Hello all!
Its been a while, mainly since I haven't had neither questions nor time. Until now.
I have to swap the old gas tank of my 1973 Mach 1 with a new one. In doing so, I'm trying to get the old bits off of the old tank to attach to the new one. There is a part called the Vapour Separator. I removed it from the tank just fine - but when I tried to clean it, the little piece of coarse honeycomb piece inside completely fragmented.
Does anyone know what exactly that stuff is? The flexible honeycomb insert thing inside the fuel vapour separator housing on top of the fuel tank - what material is it? And does anyone know of a way for me to find a replacement, without replacing the whole part?
Thanks all
Adam

Hey Adam, Call Jeff at Mustang specialteaz I think he had a couple 71-73 Mustangs sitting there. He may ahve a part you need. I may also have another source as I'm sure that part is used on a bunch of Ford cars that vintage ( Torino Montego etc)
