04 Mustang V6 Brake Upgrade

HI,

OK so after doing some engine work on the Mustang, it became apparent that I need to upgrade the brakes. However, I don't plan on upgrading the rims to a bigger size for a while so going to say a Cobra brake upgrade or Brembo big brake upgrade is out. What I'd like to know is, what company do people recommend going to for vented rotors and pads, braided brake lines and maybe an adjustable proportioning valve.

Thanks,

Shawn

I know people talk about Hawk pads but not sure if they manufacture calipers and such. good luck either way

go with hawk pads and baer rotors , reasonable price ,look great and stop on a dime .

break upgrade will not work for 16" rims !

I'm looking at a brembo break upgrade for my 04

Technical Note. This Brembo kit requires the use of 17" (or larger) wheels with 50mm clearance to the back of the spokes as shown in the picture below.

Thanks Plotnick,

But if you read my original post..you'd see that I state as I am not about to buy new rims and tires going with this type of kit is out. I'm looking at specific rotors, pads, braided lines and maybe a proportioning valve.

Thanks for taking the time to put in your opinion though...

if your not going to get new rims then i think you can just get brembo pad and rotors that will be an oem size

I had Wagner Premium pads, EBC rotors, and stainless brake lines on my old car, stopped on a dime. No noticeable brake fade at all.
Heard nothing but good about Hawk and Baer though.

I wouldn't close the door on the rims, but that's just me, without increasing size of the brakes, how much more stopping power are you gaining by just changing rotors and pads? With a basically stock swap like you're asking for, why do you need an adjustable proportioning valve? Not clear on what the benefit would be?

Some better pads and braided lines will help, but basically you need more rotor mass for the weight and speed of the car. Unfortunately that means stepping up to larger rotors and wheels to clear them, if you are looking for an easy low cost bolt-on upgrade using OEM parts.

You could use a kit from Baer Racing that is intended for A-Sedan and Camaro-Mustang Challenge class racers that are limited to 16" wheels. Basically what they do is take the 13" Cobra rotors, turn them down to 12", and then modify the Cobra caliper brackets to go over the new rotor size. 03-up Crown Victoria rotors can also be used with this system if the caliper brackets are shimmed. Here is a link to an article from Hot Rod magazine about it, a Google search would come up with more stuff as well.
