12v Battery Recommendations

I believe the life time of the Mustang’s battery is coming to an end. It is the original battery, so I guess 4 years for a factory one isn’t too bad. Every time I change the tune and have to have the key in the on position the battery loses its charge quickly. So the question I’m asking is: If you have changed your original battery, what did you replace it with and would you recommend it?

My original one finally crapped out on me this spring. The 500 cca batteries in these cars were not the best to begin with. Some people were replacing them a couple of years in. Ford doesn't even offer it anymore...they've replaced it with another that has 590 cca, and has the same measurements. # BTX96R590, about $135.

There are lots of aftermarket options as well.

We have been using EastPenn batteries lately from carquest with good results.

I have always used Motorcraft batteries as they work well and have great warranty. Optima batteries are supposed to be good as well but from what I hear are quite expensive. I used to have issues with batteries because my cars would sit all winter but since I started using a battery tender I haven't had to replace one.

I replaced my stock battery after 8 years with another OEM.

I picked up the new battery # BTX96R590 at Fry Ford yesterday. $129.99 plus tax. My old one lasted until last weekend, It just wouldn't hold a charge any more.

Thanks for the info everyone.

Wow! Still have my original! Gets stored in a heated space every winter out of the car and haven't had any issues yet.

Can you explain why?

If you have had good luck with the OEM battery then I would probably replace it that. My wifes Escape is a 2006 and has the original battery and still seems fine....I am expecting it to start showing signs of weakening....probably this winter I would imagine. I have had good luck with AC Delco batteries in my other vehicles.....the last two I had lasted 6 years each.
I have had bad luck with OPTIMA red top batteries.....I went through 3 in one year as they would not hold a charge. I thought they were suppose to be the best but from what I have read from other posts their quality has slipped and my experience with them backs up the complaints. After my 3rd one died, I replaced it with a AC Delco and worked fine for a year and I have since sold the car so it was the battery(s) and not my alternator that was the problem. Disappointing because of their ads and stuff.
