Mustangs Wheels

Anyone know the width of the 17" stock wheel on 95 GT- Today I'm getting some 2002 Mustang 17X8 Bullitt wheels just want to know if my back tires-265/40ZR-R17" on 17X8 wheel will clear the wheel well?- Front 245/45/17 tire on 17X8 wheel.

Thanks,

Check out this site . . . http://www.1010tires.com/tiresizecalculator.asp . . . punch in your OEM tire size (either 225/55-16 OR 245/45-17 depending on what came stock on your car), then punch in your two new sizes to compare them with stock. It will list the total diameter of each tire, along with widths, speedometer differences, etc.

FYI - tirerack.com doesn't have any tires available in the size 265/45/17, and 265/40/17 has a rim width range of 9 - 10.5".

My Mustang came with the 17X? with the tires I wrote about just really want to know if I have 17X8 because that is what I"m getting always had that tire size 265/40/17 back and 245/45/17. The 17X8 Bullitt wheel is a stock 02 Mustang.

Thanks

Ahhh, your initial post said your fronts were 265/45/17 not 245/45/17. A rim width of 8" will be fine for the 245/45/17's on the front, but according to specs for 265/40/17's, you'll need a minimum rim width of 9" for the rear.

Yes stev0h I did make a mistake on that it is 245/45/17 lol. However I have been running the rear 265/40ZR/17 on the stock wheels. That could be why I'm getting body or tire roll? Also the Bullitt wheels and tires I got tonight have 245/45Z1/17 all around but he didn't have them on his 02 for over 4 yrs. The wheels and tires are in very nice shape

I'm no expert, but yeah, I think you would tend to roll around a little more than you'd like running too wide a tire on too narrow a rim, especially if you drive a bit aggressively on occasion

265/40R17 is also shorter than the 245/45R17 by about half an inch. My suggestion if you want a bit more rubber than the 245, is to go with 255/45R17 all around. That was the stock size on some of the early SN95 Cobras, and will fit OK on an 8" wheel. Downside is that there is not as much choice for various models of tires in the 255 size compared to 245/45R17.

cheers
Ed

Thanks for all the info Stev0h & Fast Ed. Well I got my Bullitt wheels and the guy had the wheels off his 2002 ROUSH Stage 3/5Spd. I couldn't believe my eyes plus he has a 1970 Mach 1 351-C-4 Spd WOW!! The wheels only had about 2000 KM taken off his Rouse back in 2002 with the 02 Goodyears. I got a great deal just like brand new wheels.

Thanks, Rob
