My budget E7 port job

I know these are not the best heads to get high HP out of but as my budget will allow me to do this is all I have to work with. I have read and read write ups on DYI porting and hopefully learned what to do and what not to do. Any input will be appriated as I am a rookie.
1st mistake I made on the first attempt was I wore through the pushrod pinch point, I got greedy and careless and paid the price lol
On the second attempt I proceeded to Blend the bowl, remove any casting marks and just smooth out any areas that air can flow
pic here is the intake bowl and runner

I have felpro 1262 intake gaskets(am running a trick flow street heat intake) are these gaskets Too big? I was going to curve the intake port and not completely gasket match it. does that sound right.
on the exhaust port I blended the bowl smoothed any crappy casting and opened up the exhaust port a little bit

any tips or am I doing this completely wrong. I have a set of 100% stock E7's on my car now and am not expecting drastic changes but I do expect a bit better preformance

Wow, pretty impressive. I don't think I trust my skills enough to tackle a porting job like that. Way to go! :tup Let us know how it all works out for ya.

StealthStang 01-30-2013 12:32 PM

I def will, I will post updates along with pics. They will be flow bench tested when they are finished

Very nice. I ported a few years ago, and they came out good, and seem to work really well.

StealthStang 01-31-2013 09:34 AM

I didn't change the runner size as I read and was told that can hurt flow. I really opened up the bowl and did a lot of smoothing in the bowl. The castings are terribly crappy lol

StealthStang 01-31-2013 11:35 PM

Well 16 hours later I finished up the head. Opened up and blended the bowls, smoothed the intake and exhaust runners and opened up the pushrod pinch areas on all intake ports. Its incredable how much casting crap was in there. I will have pics of the finished product tomorrow.

I never did a dyno test before but the car ran a best of 12.8 @ 104 mph NA.
Hopefully the work I have done will help the car gain a couple of 10ths and a few MPH

1low03gt 02-01-2013 09:24 PM

Those look really good!!:tup

StealthStang 02-02-2013 11:02 AM

Thanks, I got a assortment of hard stones to smooth the grinding marks and got some valve lapping paste to re seal up all the valves

...if your on a tight budget but still want to make more power i have a buddy,he has a set of world roush 200 iron heads just came off a project.i bet you can get them complete with hardware, rockers and pushrods for around 500 bucks...your spending all this time removing the heads messing with them....and have a good intake why not step up....oh ya he can deliver them too

...i'm sure if your porting e7's you have seen some of tmoss porting stuff...follow his tricks and you'll be fine.....

StealthStang 02-03-2013 10:14 AM

I have read every article possible T Moss has written about porting the E7's. I definitely didn't start "hogging" them out. I worked the pushrod pinch points, smoothed all the crappy casting then opened up and blended the exhaust and intake bowls. Stock they flow 155 intake side and 105 exhaust. I will have mine flow bench tested when I am done to see where I will be. I don't make much power now but with spray I run 11.55@114 with stock heads, rockers and springs. When I go back to work I am having the converter re stalled, upping it to 4500 from 3000
