Removing Damaged Door Sill Inserts

As many of you know in the fall of 2014 I bought a 2007 Mustang GT in need of some TLC. One of the last little projects I am doing in replacing the scuffed and damaged sill inserts in the molded door sill. This may look like an ominous task but the removal of the old plates is relatively easy but time consuming.

For this job you will need a hair dryer and a flat head screw driver with a thin tip. The first step is to place something thick on the ground to protect your knees as you will be on them for a few minutes.

Next place the hair dryer mouth at one end of the insert for a few minutes this will allow the Ford adhesive to give a bit so the flat head screw driver can start to pry up the end. Once you have the insert end pried up about an inch direct the heat from the blow dryer underneath the insert. This will allow the heat to melt the remaining adhesive while at the same time letting the insert give way as you pull up on it.

Once the insert is completely off you will need to get some adhesive remover or rubbing alcohol to remove the remaining bits of the Ford adhesive gasket. I found that most of the adhesive gasket stays on the molding. You will have to use your fingernail to scratch off the black adhesive. The final step would be to spray an all purpose cleaner over the area as the location has to be thoroughly cleaned to allow the new inserts adhesive to adhere to the molding.

The original Mustang Insert is being replace with a Roush Insert. http://www.cjponyparts.com/roush-doo...-2009/p/DSP54/
