So I had to post this video for you guys. The Mustang in this video is the exact same color as the Mustang my daughter and I are building. The more we watch this video the more we think keeping this color would be really cool. What do you guys think?

I've seen cars like this where the paint changes drastically in varying light conditions. It's really cool.

So explain what the paint is and how it's applied. I imagine it's not something a person can do in their driveway.

Did you do yours on your own or have it done?

I did not do mine but I have seen one sprayed before. A friend of mine used to work for BASF and I was there when they pained a Pontiac Firebird to show off the colour. It's called BASF Extreme Rainbow and it's not difficult to apply - its all in the paint - no special technique or paint mixing. The car has to be sprayed with a base coat of blue or black - depending on what colour you choose changes the end results of the paint job. You HAVE to have a base of blue or black - any other colour and you'll loose the effect. Once your base is sprayed and has dryed slightly (its tacky) you simply spray the extreme paint and then finish with clear coat. BASF has a patent on the paint molecule of its BASF Extreme paint. The paint molecule on extreme paints are three sided, instead of two sided like regular paints - thats what gives the effect. And the effect is stunning. The paint in this video can actually change between 12 different colours including blue, purple, green, gold, copper, pink, and more.

Is that the same BASF of cassette, CD and electronics media fame?

Is it expensive?

VAEM 04-20-2010 08:14 PM

I don't know about that ... it's the BASF of paint! LOL ... In terms of cost, when that Firebird was painted the paint costed just under $1000.00 a pint! Thankfully, you don't need a lot to get the effect - one thin coat will do you. It'll still cost you a small fortune to paint your car.

Very nice!!I say yes on keeping the colour.:tup
Again,sweet tunes!

Yipes... Ok... you just convinced me to stick with my redfire pearl..!!!

But I do like it.. it's the coolest colour I've ever seen.

Imagine using this car to rob a bank. "Officer I saw the getaway car... it was blue, purple, black, pink, hell I don't know..!!"

LOL ... I had to give a colour to the MTO office when I registered it. I explained the colour to the clerk. She looked at me funny so I invited her outside to take a look. She immediatly said blue, then turned to go back inside and stopped, no ... green ... wait a second. She ended up going with "pearl".
