16 Focus RS
Well it looks like on ford.ca we can buold and price an RS. Starting at 46969!!!!! May as well get a stang!

Some of the traditional guys will say the golden era of muscle cars was the late 60's, but I'm saying that we're in the golden age of muscle cars now, right now. Look at all the different choices you have for serious factory muscle, right across the big three, all you have to do is walk in and order. (Pricing is another discussion, but you could walk in none the less). Who would have figured a little pocket rocket like the Focus RS ? Personally, I'd go for the traditional V8 muscle, but 350hp is a lot to stuff into a car that small, and its all about the power to weight ratio, just look at the ricer street bikes.

That car really intrigues me. It isn't cheap, but the thought of that kind of performance in a car that has some practicality makes sense to me. If you price comparable cars such as WRX STI, Golf R, etc the price is right inline. To get into a Mustang GT with the same type of technology in it you are looking at an MSRP over $50,000.

I actually wouldn't mind the price if you weren't forced to get all the bells and whistles here in Canada. Why is that Chad? Like when I bought my mustang in 09 I didn't have the option to buy a base GT, only premium.

I used to be big into the v8's but the more I've been on mustang forums the more I realize there is always someone or some new car that is faster, learner that the hard way buying a 10 gt lol. I really think my next car after the Tacoma is paid for is going to be either an eco-boost base or an RS focus if I can get one a little cheeper and with less options. Both would be really fun to me, and thats what counts to me now, not really having tons of power but enough to have some fun and pass people easily on long highway cruises. Do you know Chad how long the RS is going to be made? |
Yah, theres always going to be someone thats faster, thats why the whole racing thing never interested me much, from the perspective of doing it, not watching. You see guys on the other forums getting all bent out of shape about whose got what equipment, whose got more horsepower blah blah blah, and at the end of the day, all they do is keep chasing something they'll never catch, all the while spending wads of cash and breaking stuff. No thanks, I think you've got the right approach, go out, have some fun, and enjoy what you've got instead of trying to keep up with everyone else. ( A little racing humour there.)

Different kind of car and different market than the Mustang. The $46K in Canada is also going to include a set of Michelin Pilot Alpin winter tires on 18" alloys, and I believe the standard tires are going to be the Pilot Sport Cup 2, which are basically track-ready. A friend that is a fellow track day instructor is seriously considering the RS, and he's always been a German car guy, currently a GTI owner. At least with the Focus RS it would still be a German-made car for him! LOL
Ford is looking for new customers coming from other brands with the ST and RS cars, not trying to take sales away from Mustang. Although the new gen Mustang has done a good job getting conquest customers too, especially the Ecoboost cars in the U.S. cheers Ed |
I seen this car ( it was locked) and talked to one of the Ford performance guys.
This thing will be crazy fast. 350hp, working wings/splitters, hi tech suspension. Big brakes and all wheel drive. all wrapped in a 4 door grocery getter style of car. $46000. may seem steep, but considering the price of most cars today not outrageous. Also it will be difficult to buy, as they are not making boat loads of them and I don't think huge amounts to Canada, it will be a limited amount for sale. If I could afford it, I would have along side my Mustang :) |
