Ford Reports $5.8 Billion 3Q Loss

DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) - Ford Motor Co. (F) said Monday its loss widened to $5.8 billion in the third quarter, weighed down by the costs of its massive restructuring plan aimed at cutting its expenses so it can compete better against lower-cost rivals from overseas.

Blame it on the crappy line up cars they put up for the North American market. Look at Ford of Europe, they are doing so much better, I wonder why lust:

I like to blame things on the union when it comes to quality and cost :)

No need to show your lack of intelligence on the subject.

Hey, a personal attack, that must have taken a lot of courage and strength to put down your beer long enough to write that sentence. Gotta love the Internet keyboard warriors.

meh, whatever. my personal opinion regarding unions is very low, it's been discussed to death here and other boards and there's no reason to repeat the same content again. you believe what you want, it doesn't affect my life, you can also continue your personal attacks if it makes you feel better.

You talk about personal attacks? Attacking Unions is personal to me.

Sooooooo, does this mean you will stop with your cheap shots, blaming everything from the world economy to constipation on Union's?

Mike.

It must affect your life, cuz you feel this need to respond in every thread regarding a topic like this. I couldn't give 2 shits what you THINK about Unions. You can continue to be misinformed. As for personal attacks...take your own advice for once.

kornstar369 11-21-2006 11:06 PM

thats allot of dough....they still didnt really "loose" money...they just compared their profits to other quarters...i wonder how much they made still...5 billion? lol

anarchist 11-22-2006 08:53 AM

I respond to this thread because I started the thread.

You taking it personally that I don't like unions is odd to me, as it would like me taking personal offense to you not liking blue shirts because I wear blue shirts.

A personal attack is...well a statement made negatively directed solely to an individual. If you take offense that I don't like organized religion, unions or anything else then you are the one that is intolerant to other peoples view and not I.

As for Ford losing money, it's no secret why the Ford and the big three are losing dollars. Quality and service are out the window and the warranties are bare minimum. For them to cut costs to match competition they have to cut corners. It just happens to be my belief that having to pay 60k a year to someone that puts tab A into slot B is a big reason they have to cheapen the vehicles.

pmhvps 11-23-2006 06:14 AM

A believer in anarchism; one who advocates social freedom as the highest political goal, and therefore aims at the overthrow of all unjustified systems of power (corporate, governmental and other) and create a type of socialist order in which the State is not necessary and thus abolished.
In a loose sense, someone conforming to the stereotype of the anarchist as a nihilist or person using terrorism to overthrow the State. :Weird:

I wish I had 5.8 Billion dollars. That would kick ass.

mustangdaver 12-14-2006 11:59 AM

Union or no union? Good question.
I myself do work in a union shop, the only thing that the union gives me is great wages and benifits. For others there it gives them protection from the boss who knows that they are making puppies all day long!
I drive over 1 hour 1 way to get to work. Why? The reason is: the same job here (not in a union) pays $14/hr less.
I have been to university and worked in the field that I went to school for, when I got my layoff notice because of downsizing...... I thought I would not find a job that pays that well. Then I started making parts for GM in a union shop! Putting part A into Part B may seem easy, but do it 8 or 12 hours a day 7 days a week and see what you feel like.

One thing that is forgotten is "way of life". In China, cars are built by people making $3.50 USD a day. Not the pay I am looking for. That is what is killing us. We as Canadians have a style of life that we like, and we pay for it!!

I do agree that unions jack the wages, but if the money was not there, I could not afford the things I like.

In the end, domestic auto manufactures cannot compete against companies that pay so little, but make such big profits on there cars (and most other products).

It honestly kills me to think about Ford one day disappearing. If you look around at what you buy, the big "old" names are gone, giving us offshore names. Quality WAS an issue years ago, now, it is all price!

A price we in North America will all pay for when offshore companies run all of us and there are no jobs left......depression/recession.

What we need is a ....lol... North American Dollar.....lol..the NAD!

Dave

Good points.

The fact is Wal-Mart made a lot of stores close their doors because of their pricing. People may state they have high ideals and a moral compass when it comes to their purchases, but they will generally go for the cheaper product instead of the quality product.

I mean, have you seen a $5.99 buffet in the US? It's the worst quality food ever, but they get their huge portions so they see value.

Humans are the only species whereby the survival and decision making is not by the fittest, but by the masses.

You got Ricky Buddy * 300 million votes out there in the US and they get their way and that usually isn't the right way.

Obviously the other way around is a dictatorship so nothing seems to work well for us.

I'm sure the economy will collapse as we will be all too good to work for such menial dollars and won't want to do such menial tasks, creating a reliance on other countries who will in turn have a majority hold over our imports.

Hey:
The reason that Ford North America is doing so badly is because they aren't keeping up very well with all the foreign imports in things like Drifting and prettying up. If they'd just... Well, yes! If they'd just realize that the 60s are over (and so are the 70's) and the new breed of street racer isn't called fonzie, but is probably called "something Lee: Drift King". They might be doing a little bit better. Plus, if they'd just promote the Mustang as a drift racer, they'd be laughing. (Myself, I'd also prefer the Ford F-Series truck to not be super/extra/deluxe/extended cab, but just a plain single cab. After all, F-Series Trucks are for working. If you want a family vehicle, go to a Chevrolet/Chevy/Non-Ford)
The other thing that I note is that they're making truck/SUV/Car/Family Vehicle half-and-halves: Excuse me Ford Motors! Sorry To Say: Those went out almost as soon as they came in! Stop trying to catch up with 1999...please.
Thank you for allowing me to vent my spleen. I feel Much Better. :)
