Future Fords Could Monitor Your Health

Las Vegas, Nevada – Ford vehicles in the future could help monitor your health. Ford, Microsoft and Healthrageous are researching how connected devices can help people monitor and maintain their health and wellness, the companies announced at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The prototype system uses Ford SYNC, Microsoft HealthVault, Windows Azure and interactive services provided by Healthrageous.

“People are spending more time in their cars, and with the tremendous growth in mobile health care solutions, Ford is dedicated to understanding the value of being able to connect to health and wellness-related services while driving,” said Gary Strumolo, manager of infotainment, interiors, health and wellness at Ford Research and Innovation. “Our connectivity platform, Ford SYNC, provides easy, voice-controlled access to mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets, and therefore it makes sense to research areas that are important to our customers.”

The prototype uses information collected from blood pressure, activity and glucose monitors, behavioral data shared by the user, and biometrical data from a wearable device, done hands-free through Ford SYNC. The data are then uploaded into the HealthVault cloud and transferred to Windows Azure, where the information is processed with other data to create graphical reports that the driver can access after leaving the vehicle.

What i don't get, they can add all these freakin stuff in these cars, and trucks, but not one company is adding a feature to stop the cell phone use while driving!!!!!!!

I know i wouldn't cry if they did!!!!! Sorry to side track, but it really gets to me then can add every feature but one that could actually help everyone!

Scosche debuts accessory that blocks all cell phone use in cars

Scosche has created a new device designed to disable cell phones while driving. The cellCONTROL uses Bluetooth to block calls the instant a vehicle begins moving. According to the company, users activate the system online, download an application onto their mobile phone and plug a trigger unit directly into the vehicle's OBD-II port. Once installed, the cellCONTROL automatically blocks telephone functions, from ingoing and outgoing calls to SMS, MMS, and internet connectivity. The device isn't a blanket block, however. According to Scosche, the device lets the phone to work as intended once a hands-free headset is detected.

The application will automatically alert an administrator via text or email should the cellCONTROL be deactivated, removed or otherwise tampered with. Scosche says the device is compatible with more than 1,200 devices and any vehicle sold in the U.S. after 1996. Prices start at $129.95. Seems like small price to pay to drive cell-free. I know that is a touchy one, but you got to think about what we did not to long ago without cell phones.
Besides, if one needs to make a 911 call, they should be pulling over regardless. Just being in a panic while dialling 911, and driving is enough stress for the average driver to make an accident on their own these days in my opinion LOL.

Ok I'll be the bad guy here.....I personally think if you cannot talk on a phone, and drive at the same time, your probably not capable of driving in the first place! Don't get me wrong, I am totally against texting while behind the wheel, or even dialing for that matter, but answering a call, or using a hands free device for dialing isn't, or at least shouldn't be, an issue. Let's be honest here, the majority of people texting and causing accidents, are young drivers, because this whole texting thing, and BBM, Twitter, GPS and whatever else, is all part of their generation, and as normal to them, as grabbing a six pack for the trip home was for me, back in my day, which was probably even more dangerous!

I think it's all about education, and follow up education. What I mean by that, is once you recieve the "proper" training to aquire a drivers license, you should have to go through a quick re-fresher course every five years or so, in order to renew that license. It's just like a 1st Aid course, or dangerous goods course. Rules and regulations change all the time, and we expect drivers to just know about any new rules or laws, but if we truly believe that's happening, we're just not being realistic.
