New report suggests 2015 Mustang four-cylinder to be available in U.S.

Last week it was reported that the upcoming four-cylinder engine option in the 2015 Ford Mustang might not be available in the United States, at least according to an article by Edmunds.com. Instead, the 2.3-liter turbocharged engine would only be available in foreign markets like Europe where gas prices and taxes dictate the need for smaller, more fuel efficient powertrains. However, Road & Track is now reporting that the four-cylinder engine will in fact be available in the United States when the 2015 Mustang makes its debut. “Road & Track has confirmed that we will indeed get the 2.3-liter turbo four here in the U.S. market,” says Road & Track’s site director Alex Nunez.

Additionally, and perhaps more interestingly, Road & Track reports that the four-pot motor won’t be the base engine, slotting in between the V6 and the V8. They point out that EcoBoost motors are a premium option throughout the Ford lineup, whether it’s with cars like the Fusion, SUVs like the Escape or Explorer, or in the truck lineup with the F-150, and it’s likely this will be the case with the Mustang as well. If this is true, then the turbocharged 2.3-liter engine should offer up more horsepower than the current V6 while offering better fuel economy as well.

Makes wonder how much smaller, and lighter the next generation mustang will be?

Like I would go out and buy the 2015 version of a Mustang...NOT!!!!!!!! My view is the Mustang had a good fifty year run from 1964 1/2 to the end of 2014. The 2015 style is a piece of crap. What was Ford thinking??? Or where they thinking???

They say "What goes around, comes around." Remember the Mustang II, The glorified Pinto! What was old is new again. Could this be the second coming of the Mustang II? Any thoughts on that?

I'm all for something fresh and new. I'm happy about the turbo 4 but would really have been excited about the 3.5 Ecoboost. It's time for the Mustang to modernize and begin its next era. Keep in mind that any pictures you guys have seen were speculations if what the car may look like. It's pretty tough to make a decision without seeing the car. Look at the new Corvette. A lot of people are pissed that most of the retro styling of the car is gone but its a bad ass machine.

I'm scared to see what they come out with. I know times are changing but they better not turn the Mustang in to a miniature pony. If you've got a 2013 or 14 you might want to hold on to it, you might have one of the last real Mustangs.

I have seen a few pics in various sites....not to impressed. Won't be me buying it.

We can't say anything we have seen so far is what the next one will be. Just keep in mind what J Mays has said in an interview about the future of the next Mustang, and what we are seeing is still got quite a bit of the classic Q's on the side profile lines like the current model in which he stated the retro them will no longer be part of the next generations design, only a few design Q's will be to keep that them going, and are also larger to what has been stated. So don't speak to soon. I'm still holding my views til i see the REAL THING. :wink:
