I had that, the carpet held down the gas peddle at W.O.T when I was at the track last year on my 2004 Cobra, good thing I knew to shut the car off, went to the dealer, replaced the carpet and it still wanted to do the same thing, we have since cut a spot where the gas peddle goes to the floor...it was pretty dam scary!!!
Back in the day, I had an S10 with a mild 400 SBC under hood. I went to pass a guy in town on a 4 lane street and this happened to me. Pedal stuck to the floor, I turned the engine off only to have the key go back one notch too far and lock the steering column - while I was headed into oncoming traffic. When I turned the key forward again, (read ignition on, all of this transpired in two or three seconds) the engine roared back to life. I slammed WOT full bore into the car in front of me.
I took a look at the pedal, and it was stuck in a little slice in the carpet I had made to ease installation.
One front clip destroyed, and one lesson learned.

I've had something like that happen to me when I had my Sundance. The throttle cable was frayed and it got stuck in the firewall.. with the pedal to the floor. Luckily the car had about 17hp and I was able to turn it off without killing myself or anyone else.
My explorer did that once or twice to me, I then fixed the carpet that had bunched a bit there by the pedal and caused it. A buddy's 525RWHP car does it on occasion, I'm sure its no where near as fun with it.
