17x7 rims on a 09 GT?

Got an 09 Gt with the 18'' factory rims. I'm looking to pick up some winter tires and save a few bucks by downsizing to a 17 rim. Looking at 235/55/17 or 215/60/17 for the tires - I'll likely be taking the wider 235/55 option.
I was going to use steel rims and the biggest size I can get is 17x7. I know the 17'' diameter will clear the brakes but will the 7'' width cause any problems? ...other than making it look like Iam sporting bicycle tires.

That wheel size is fine ... we have put together a package using them for a few of our Mustang customers at the dealership I work at.

You can buy good steel rims from the dealer under part number 7W7Z 1007 C, they are from the newer Crown Vic Police Interceptor package. Offset and bolt pattern is good for the S197 Mustangs, wholesale price on them is $76.46 each.

cheers
