2001 Mustang Bullit
I consider the people on this forum to be very knowledgeable about mustangs. And so you guys should be you all own one. Im asking for some input because i can read w.e. i want online but the information i get here is better. Tomorrow i am going to seriously look at buying a 2001 Bullit. I have never really been a huge fan of the car but now that i research it more im starting to like it more and more. The transmission is a diff transmission which seems like that could be good because u guys pointed out it being a problem in the regular GTs. So heres my questions i need answered.
Is the transmission an improvement in reliability and performance? Is there any reason to not purchase an 01 bullit? Do all the parts that fit on a regular GT fit on a bullit? Baisically anything u guys know about this car good or bad would be helpful. thankyou very much for your time, hopefully i can rejoin the world of mustang driving in the near future! |
BTW is 9500 for a 01 bullitt in 8/10 condition a good price?
|
Well as far as I know the transmission is no different than the GT, but i may be wrong there? it was lowered 3/4 of an inch, and had Tokico shocks, and short length sub-frame connectors, a new style intake, high-flow mufflers, and special underdrive pulleys. The horsepower was rated at 265, and it also had the same brakes as the Cobras of that era. As for price, it all depends on condition. You need to take it for a good drive and look it over real good. Sounds crazy, but when buying a used vehicle I would go test drive it & look it over, and then come back in a day or two, and look it over again. You will be absolutely amazed at what you see the 2nd time that you didnt see the 1st time.

I really like the Bullitt as it is different than every other GT. As far as I know it's the same trans as a GT which I wouldn't be too worried about. The horsepower was only rated at 5 more than the GT but any magazine article I read found that the performance of the car was much better than a 5 hp bump. As far as the value a huge factor is the mileage.
|
Good luck and depending on the shape and mileage that's a great price. I have a friend that would want much more than that but his is minty
|
well when it comes to the bullitt its pretty much the same car over all with a few upgrades ive read that there more fun because they have a little more kit. and if your a fan of that movie the car sounds just like frank bullitts car i believe. but all cars have problems and buying a 10 year old car is fine but it depends on how the previous owner drove it. drive it if u like it and the price is right and not 2 high mileage take it. if there's something that u dont like and its going to bug u dont get it. choice is yours. p.s. i pretty sure the tranny is the same.
|
o yeah one more thing if u care when getting a car with more kit means it costs more to fix.
|
To me the 390 in the original has a deeper lower rumble=win. Mind you the 01 sounds decent as well but with 109 more cubes the sound should be different

I love the Bullitt. When I was looking for a "fun" car I never even considered a Mustang until I drove it. The "tweaks" that were done to the car, especially the Brakes, intake, tune, exhaust and suspension lowering transform it into a better Mustang than the standard GT. The rated HP does not tell the story...the tune lets the increased torque come in at a lower RPM and have a flatter curve. My car dyno'd at 242 RWHP and 285 RWTQ with only a CAI. As far as I can see, there is no reason to NOT buy a Bullitt, if it is unmolested and in otherwise good shape. They are awesome cars with a huge following in the USA. Check out http://www.imboc.com/forums/ which should answer any questions you have about the car. This is where I went to do research before I bought mine. Also IMO $9,500 is a good price, but that's just me....... |
Nothing wrong with an '01 Bullitt.

Don't let the trans scare you away from apurchase. As long as it shifts smoothly, and does't feel to notchy, your golden. Other specific Bullitt only stuff are also unique lower rockers/skirts,side scoops delete, diffrent sail panels(shared by the Mach 1 later)and black trim around the pony on the front grille instead of the chrome like standard mustangs, aluminum fuel door (that most add on to the regular stangs anyways),spoiler delete, foglight delete, each Bullitt comes with a number which can be found on the driverside strut tower,or under the rear seat,re cover Cobra seats to mimic the late sixties stitching/design,classic look to the speedo, and tach. I myself love the Bullitt.Almost got one,but backed out of the deal.Long/short story.A gut feeling thing. All car magazines loved it.Most thought it was a well rounded, balanced mustang, and could hold it's own. I think the price is good.If this Bullitt is everything you expect it to be for the price.I say why not. |
