2003 Ford Mustang GT Ragtop Engine Swap

Hi Guys, I am new here.

I recently acquired a 2003 Mustang GT Rag. and after a week my engine is toast. I am curious if the 2005-08 4.6 3V would be a direct swap into the car and if it would mount up with a 5speed tranny?

SNAKEBITE 09-21-2011 08:11 PM

check 1lows answer in your other post

1low03gt 09-21-2011 08:17 PM

Thanks Paul LOL!
And it will mount to your trans, and k member. The rest i roughly explained in your other thread.

Yah, like I suggested in the other thread too, go supercharged dude, sounds like an awful lot of work to swap to the new block, but then you might not be as lazy as me either!!

Just curious was the car a private sale or from a dealer? What was the mileage when you got it?

yellowragtop 09-24-2011 07:15 PM

I was, but I am looking at the positive side. Ive scored a good deal on a motor, that is more or less a drop in, and I will have a nice little sleeper with a more extra ponies than ur standard ragtop! :)

yellowragtop 10-01-2011 05:46 PM

hey guys I thought I'd give you an update. The engine that I thought was a cobra engine is acctually a 1997 MKV III engine. even better, easier swap so I've been told :) I purchased a set of pacesetter long tube headers and will be getting a custom made x-pipe for the car :) hopefully will be done this week! I will have pictures and maybe a video too boot :P:)

1low03gt 10-01-2011 08:19 PM

Will be waiting :D

IF it was bought from a dealer there are laws that protect the consumer and in Alberta a vehicle can not be sold as is. Everything needs to be declared. You should look into as the dealer may have to give you some financial assitance toward the repair.

yellowragtop 10-02-2011 01:22 PM

welcome to Ontario...I actually sell cars...when a vehicle is sold as is..major issues must be declared, such as power train issues. Unfortunately if a power train issues occurs like this, you have to be able to prove the issue that the problem was there before. I have spoken with them, they have given me $500 towards the repairs.

DublDee 10-09-2011 10:09 AM

Hey at least you got $500, which is a lot more than the Ford dealer here would have done, actually it's about $500 more than the dealer here would have done. This dealership is a joke. I actually make a road trip to Saskatoon whenever the Mistress needs servicing. How pathetic is that!

Weird, there is alot more liability on the dealers behalf in Alberta. AMVIC keeps things very fair for the customer.

I have some buddies of mine and even some of the techs at work say, I should have fought for more money. But I tell them, that its sold as, there is no warranty unless i can prove this was an issue before the sale. Which I tried but the vehicle was serviced at a local garage and not a ford dealer. I am happy I got the 500:) In terms of the dealership, I refuse to deal with any dealership in the local area and drive about 1 hour to get to my ford dealer. The dealer where I bought the car from was local and one I said i'd never deal with, but I traded them my rx-8 with a cooked tranny :) oh and before I forget, The engine is almost in guys...the headers are on, and the engine is just waiting to be hooked up and wired in :)

SNAKEBITE 10-14-2011 07:09 PM

I guess 500.00 is better than a kick in the nuts with steel toed boots. I would love to see pics/video's when you are finished.

yellowragtop 10-15-2011 05:04 AM

pretty much haha....and hopefully it is done by this friday, and I will get some pics and videos up.

1low03gt 10-15-2011 10:02 PM

Better then nothing for sure!! London dealers are not the best at all. I too go out of my way to an out of London dealership, and get way better service, and made a few new friends out of it aswell.
Glad to see things are moving along for you.

You have to go further north to hit the best dealer though.

SNAKEBITE 10-18-2011 05:09 PM

^^^^tehehehehe. Metro Ford has treated me like royalty. When they are done with the car they take it downstairs away from the public etc. The big thing that would scare me is if during the summer and a hailstorm rolled through like 2 years ago=ouch ding shiat lol

That's good. I hear you one the hail thing, imagine having to worry about 150+ vehicles.

SNAKEBITE 10-25-2011 03:54 PM

Two summers ago Metro Ford GSL Chev City and Renfrew Chrysler (with 1-2 k's of each other) got pummelled by a hailstorm. Metro was the smallest dealer by a wide margin and roughly 150 cars were dinged. The Chev and Chrysler dealers had roughly 250+ cars each dinged i.e. every car outside got dented. My old-timer friend Ross (3 Ponies) was driving d.t in his Shelby GT and he got hammered as well. I can't imagine what the 3 dealers submitted in claims along with all the cars parked outside while the owners were inside working. I know where every last parkade is, loading docks, +15's etc so I could have gotten out of the way if I was driving at the time.

SNAKEBITE 10-25-2011 03:57 PM

There are 3 dealers with a 1-2 k radius with a total of 700 cars that all got dinged = ouch

That would suck. Can you say one hail of a sale.

BLKnRD09GT 10-25-2011 11:35 PM

I don't deal with London FORD dealerships either. I travel about a half hour west of here. FWIW

I think all the dealers had an estimate done as far as repair cost and passed that on to customers:tup

ChadStang 10-27-2011 08:59 PM

^ that's usually how they handle it as the repair process takes forever

SNAKEBITE 10-30-2011 10:15 PM

I can imagine having to deal with 500 estimates

I've had enough of insurance companies for a while. That's for sure.
