2005 Thump sound while driving

Just picked up a 2005 GT, lov'in it. Unfortunately bought via a broker so know almost nothing beyond what was on the CarFax report.

Anywho, while driving when going over various road imperfections (bumps) there is kind of a "thumping" noise. Kind of like a rubber mallet hitting something. Maybe it's just old, but I wonder if it needs new suspension bushings or something.

Anyone with experience with such things have any thoughts. Obviously I could take it in somewhere, but I'd like to have some background knowledge first.

Couple places to look...upper strut mounts for one, and the possibility that the exhaust is moving around a bit, contacting the floor somewhere. I believe the upper strut mounts were a common thing on the early cars.

Thanks, we (me and my son, who has his L on this car, which in BC is an indication of a "Learner") will check it out
