there is many threads of this nature, one about 4.10's i do beleive is just below this one. anyway. i had 4.10's in my 99 N/A cobra, compared to stock made city driving a breeze, but highway gas guzzling, but still loads of fun all around.

I do believe the standard practice is 4:10's work best with the 4.6.And 3:73's for the 5.0.

Believe me you will not like 3.73's in a 4.6L been there done that, I put them in for only a week before going to 4.30's

agree, all depends on what model you have.

i put 4:10's in mine, and drove it that way for 6 months N/A. next year she will be blown, and no plans of changing gears.

FlIpMoDe How are your RPM's at like 80, 100, 120, 140km for your 4:30's

I was thinkin about the higher gears, how do you like for daily driven
and track use

FlIpMoDe 01-23-2007 09:22 AM

If you have a 2v N/A with just bolt on mods then 4.30' are pushing the edge, in the 1/4 mile I am redline in 4th at 100 MPH. As far as RPM's I can't remeber the exact RPM's at those speeds.

On the other hand if you have a 4v then the 4.30's will be even better since the redline is higher, in my opinion would be perfect.

3 things you need to know with 4.30's

Traction is limited in 1st and into 2nd gear, be prepared to get sticky tires if you go to the track, I have Nitto's 285 wide DR's on a 18 inch rim and they don't work worth . You will need to get either a striaght slick or MT street radial on a 15 inch rim.

4.30's can be a pain in the ass to setup, I did it myself and it took about 3 ~ 4 tries to get it to where I liked. Mind you the first 3 ~ 4 times it wasn't too bad for whine but I just like to fine tune it for the best, as for the whine it is barely noticeable. Gfong on the other hand had bad experience with 4.30's. He had them professionally installed either 2 ~ 3 times and from what I heard the Whine was unbearable and he went back to 4.10's. I think it was a bad set of gears.

One other thing I noticed with 4.30's was vibration, after talking with gfong I did not think much about this but the drive shaft is spinning at a higher RPM which was causing my vibration. I put an aluminum drive shaft on and poof the vibration was gone.

Ok stupid question. What is the cost of doing the gears?
